(not that kind :p )

Upon instructions from "She who must be obeyed" I've bought a kayak and will be doing some of that this summer. I need some footgear for it. My tevas have worn out, but I didn't love them anyways.
Probably won't be doing much hiking or portaging, with them, but will be wearing them around as kicks as well as in the kayak.

Are sandals the only way to go or are there some slip ons that will work, I think somebody called them "reef runners" or something like that.

When I know I won't be toting my boat I use neoprene diving boots with a rubber sole. Whitewater rocks can be very slippery and the best thing that I have used have been teva's with the 410 climbing rubber. That stuff is geat, but for it to last you should only use them when you are on the rivers. I would think that the rubber would wear out very quickly for everyday walking around.

Get yourself a pair of Keen Newport H2's. I canoe, raft, hike, and everything else in mine. I love 'em.

I might also mention the Keen Hood River model which seems to be designed specifically for water sports like canoeing or Kayaking.

I forgot about those. But he mentioned that he wants to hit the pavement in them as well. Therefore I would go with the H2's. They seem better adapted for going from river to pavement.
