Finding the right boot/shoe is always a pain in the rear for me as I have some minor foot problems, and I spent the last several days on the quest for a new pair of winter everyday/hiking boots. They are our primary mode of transportation and we spend a lot of time wearing them. I also figure this belongs in this sub-forum as when in the woods if you have crap shoes, you have a crappy time, or at least I do.

So I am curious what everyone wears on the trail, on the job, and when out and about. What do you think of them, and would you buy them again? This will help myself and others learn about different brands and styles.

Break them down into categories for ease of browsing, here is what I have.

Heavy trail/Off trail - Meindl Perfekt, I just got these so I am still breaking them in, but so far very happy. Heavy, but stiff sole, and good ankle support. Sizing runs large. I wear 12 wides in Danners, I had to get these in 11 normal width.

Light trail - Danner 452:barf:, when I first got them they caused a hot spot on my left pinky toe and I had to sand down the inside of the boot slightly to fix it. They have lasted about 2 years and they are falling apart. I will be replacing them soon, just haven't decided with what.

Running/tennis - Brooks Adrenaline 7, bought on sale and work great for running and exercise. They have held up very well, and are the first running shoe I have had in years that don't cause my feet to start to hurt in the first half mile. I am a Brooks fan for life.

General purpose - Merrell Mocs use them to slip on and take out the garbage, when I have to travel via air. They are not a bad shoe for there purpose, but I would not wear them all day. The soles are wearing pretty fast for a shoe I don't wear much. I doubt I will be replacing them with another pair, for the things I do while wearing them a pair of flip-flops will suffice.

Other - I have a pair of Salomon's that are almost all mesh and I use them while kayaking. I don't know the model as they are packed up with my 'yaking gear. They are very comfortable, and they are easy on, easy off with the quick draw cord lacing.

I have also worn many pairs of duty/military style boot over the years, my favorite are the Danner Acadia's, but they run narrow for me so I have to buy wides. I no longer work in patrol and work plainclothes, so my hikers usually get worn everyday. I also have a pair of Danner Pronghorns for hunting, and they are insulated. They look like hammered crap, but will last another season or two. They redesigned the Pronghorns, and I do not like the redesign so I will have to find a different boot for hunting next year.

So what do you guys wear, and what do you think?

Jon
