For a good EDC folding knife

I just recently bought my first real knife. (A Browning Kodiak F.D.T.)
Even though I look like I was born with a knife in my hand I've never really been a knife guy (Until now). I'm having a hard time finding what I want though. The Browning was easy; I saw it, I liked it, I bought it. Now I've decided that I want an EDC folding knife and after two weeks of blurry-eyed fruitless searching I've decided I need help.

So here goes...

I think I've narrowed it down to one of those "first response/rescue" type knives. Primarily because of the rope cutter (or seat-belt cutter). I intend to use it for mostly camping/hiking-type outdoor activities. The one thing I would like that most seem to be missing would be a smaller secondary blade.

as far as price goes.... I dunno, between $60.00 and $100.00, but if it's more than that I'd still consider it.

I just hope such a creature exists.

and I hope you can help.

tl;dr looking for a "1st response" type knife with a smaller secondary blade

Holy poop. I think I'm gonna get that Victorinox just because!

Not exactly what I'm looking for, although I'm loving that awl/marlin spike. Thanks for the link, I've added it to my list of just because knives, right under the Boker Plus Urban Survival Knife and a Ka-Bar.

I had a crappy little SAK that I used for "little work" and rather than get another I wanted to find a folder with a second little blade. Plus I like the idea of cutting rope without opening the knife. hence the rescue knife.

Thanks for the responses, keep'em comin.

Welcome to bladeforums, Ed. How much rope cutting are you planning on? It seems that unless you are doing a LOT, then getting a knife with a dedicated rope cutter is wasting a good spot in your knife. Especially while camping/hiking. The plain blades in a SAK are gonna cut rope fine if sharp, and do a whole lot of other handy stuff. Whereas the rope cutters cuts rope. And seatbelts. And that's about it.

It might be worth skipping that blade and getting a saw blade instead, like on the Victorinox Farmer. My 2 cents.

Honestly sir for hiking and camping you most likely want less weight on you, I strongly suggest a spyderco delica 4 they are super light. Vg-10 steel (great steel high end ) just as the post above me it depends on how much rope ur cutting. If its a little hear and their,go with a single folder, I also highly suggest a benchmade griptilian or mini.i just got mine It has been in my pocket for over a week now and boy does it cut...and it holds a great edge... Good luck!:)

For a tactical/rescue knife Id try the CRKT M16-14ZER. Here's a review http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...mp-T-M16-ZER-Rescue-Knife?highlight=M16-14ZER

I really like my M16-14 Big dog tanto.

Mark

Couldnt agree more. Big Dog Tanto just drives me crazy.....I have nine in hand and two are on the way.....including the ZER. I put on hold my acquisition of ZER because of the ambigous of the blade material. Thereafter, CRKT assured that they are AUS8 rather than AUS4 (as seen in amazon, and other online distributors webpage).

A Benchmade Triage might fit the requirements...

Good choice. A 915 Triage or a Doug Ritter RSK MK1. Either will run you about $120 but you will have a mighty fine knife for your outdoor activities.

For a secondary blade, I would carry a second knife or Leatherman type tool.

Most folding knives tend to have a seatbelt/rope cutter. It's called a blade. :)
