Greetings All:

This Presentation Grade SSD was commissioned as a gift for a Special Forces Warrant Officer that is retiring after 25 years of service. The client chose this because it's my version of the Case V-42 which is included in their crest. The recipient received the Silver Star for Valor during the Iraq War.

The dagger is made of stabilized Bastogne Walnut with fiddleback figure and mirror finished CPM D2 with a convex tip. Orders like this provide icing on the cake to this old knife maker. All comments welcome.

V/R,

TK

Wow awestruck! Thank you for sharing and as always wonderful work. Very impressed how the different grinds come together on this one.

Looks good! Could you explain a little about the reasons for your upgrades to the V42 basic design? For example, to me it looks like you wanted a reinforced tip. I don't know snot about knifemaking, but from what I've read D2 is hard to get to a mirror polish, do you find that true?

No problem - the V-42 had the problem of tip breakage - that and the fact that the Samurai carried a belt knife with a reinforced tip to aid in armor penetration. The fuller lightens the knife - the guard has a scallop in it to aid in locating the thumb serrations in the dark when using horizontal thrusts.

D-2 can be mirror finished - Bob Dozier did it 30 years ago. CPM D2 finishes even better - the late Bill Davis loved it. I use the same process for mirror finishing CPM D2 as I do for CPM-154

You took an already-great design and made it even better.

That and such a warm tribute gesture.

As always, always impressive.

Bastogne walnut...as in the Battle of the Bulge Bastogne? If so, that's a very fitting choice for a combat veteran.

Beautiful rendition of an old classic Tim and that reinforced tip is the cats meow. I'm sure the new owner will be very happy with it.

Thanks for the kind feedback gentlemen - much appreciated :)

Thanks for the info. You make a lot of different kinds of knives, but they all look like a Steingass and that's neat!

Impressive!

I appreciate the Warrant Officers service and the great tribute knife

I love your work, and this might be my favorite yet. I also really like the reasoning behind the design modifications. Thank you for sharing.
