Most of you probably don't live in New Mexico and aren't interested in Collies. I wanted to show off this picture anyway:

This is Lacy. She was abandoned by her people and left with relatives who are already full-up with animals. So the family turned Lacy over to the New Mexico Collie Rescue. I am fostering Lacy until the Rescue matches her up with a suitable forever family.

One of our dogs, Joe, was adopted from the N.M.C.R. Before adopting Joe, someone from Sante Fe came up to Raton (a two-and-a-half hour drive) to visit with us, see our home (more importantly, to see our yard), and discuss what sort of collie would suit us. We have a small yard with shade and grass, which is perfect for an old guy like Joe.

Seriously, if anyone in New Mexico is interested in Lacy, contact the N.M.C.R. : http://www.nmcollierescue.com/
There's an application to fill out, and someone will visit your home prior to adoption.

Yep, they're great dogs. Here is Joe, the old guy we adopted for our own:

He's probably 13 years old, at least. He loves every living thing, kittens, squirrels, dogs, people, anything. Last week he made 'friends' with a baby bird that was too young to fly away.

"Dogs are great people." I don't know who first said that, but it's true. Lacy is a beautiful dog and Joe sounds like a real gem. Thanks for posting the pics. :) ADBF

Hello Bob,

Lacy is a beautiful girl. I have my share of pets (including one rescued dog and one rescued cat). We seem to take in every homeless animal that has a cute mug. :o Anyhow, I have no doubt that someone will want to provide a loving home for Lacy. Collies are a special breed. Good luck. :)

Thanks for the hopeful words. It seems many of the available collies have been adopted recently, so maybe she's next.

What people often don't realize is that the adoption fee doesn't even come close to the Lacy's expenses so far. The previous 'owners' hadn't bothered with shots this year nor heartworm preventative pills, she wasn't spayed even though she's seven, and it's quite expensive to get a collie groomed. I see that the adoption fees are going up in July. I hope that doesn't discourage potential families.

My first wish, that I could take photos that well every time! Just once, I'd like a knife photograph to come out like that.

Best Wishes,
Bob

RIP Lacy.

Lacy died today after falling/jumping from the third-floor window. She was terrified of firecrackers, and the neighbors started shooting them off this morning while wife and I had gone to the parade.

Damn, I feel terrible about leaving the dogs alone. We have medication for tonight's large city display, but were saving it for later.
