so I've bought myself two busse blades: a fat sfno with magnum tiger stripe handles and a partially serrated Terror Monkey BM with the specialty handle and I am more than impressed with the brute strength of these blades. But I have a problem.

See, one of em needs to be a user. Sure, I have plenty of other knives that are up to the tasks I'd put them to but the steel is calling me and I have no choice but to answer. So one of them needs to be a user. Now, my question to all you INFI nuts is this: Is one of these blades likely to be more collectable than the other (in its mint factory condition that is)?

Thank you in advance guys!

the fat no with tiger stripes will be very rare, tiger is now reserved for only the satin le models. i don't think you will ever see a blk crinkle with the tiger again.

samo with the monkey, it will be rare and not produced again as the ergo blanks are probably used up or gone!

it sucks that you have bought TWO safe queens, and now you will need to buy a user

if i had to pick one of the two to use it would be the NO without question!!

you can't hurt the knife, it has the world best warrenty, looks cool, is cool and would love you all the more

Use the SFNO, save the Monkey.

Hey, that could be your new tag line, "save the monkey's" ;)

:D:D

Fat blades have finally started coming out of the shop again but there was a LONG dry spell. Plus the tiger handles will be rare.

Use the Monkey save the Fatty.

oh man.... two for using the SFNO and saving the monkey, one for using the monkey and saving the SFNO- now I'm even more uncertain than before!

seriously though, thanks for the replies. my next question: what do you think the chances are of getting the black crinkle coating on the SFNO factory refinished following a small bribe of blue or gold label to Mr. Busse?

I'm in trouble. I think I might sell a few of my other blades to finance another purchase or two.

and I think its time for a signature. Save the Monkeys just might do! ;)

I know how you feel roughedges. I have the EU-17 and with luck a Eu-17 Magnum on the way...now tell me which to make my user there? Good luck to you, I am afraid that both of us may have to just bite the pork...errr bullet and get a third.

I believe Busse will still refinish a knife for a charge but you definately want to call and confirm.

I think you are exactly right. I've taken my lunch break to inventory my knives and come up with a half dozen case and cold steel blades that I can part with to finance another couple purchases. Looks like it will probably go that way.

On another note, I just remembered hacking at a water logged bookcase shelf with the SFNO a few days after I got it in the middle of adrinkin fit- so since it's already had its cherry popped (so to speak) I think I'll go ahead and make that my user for now. Worse comes to worst, I'll get another couple busse blades and try and send the fatty tiger back for refinishing before relegating it to the safe.

That's why I make sure I buy at least 2 of each model I want. In your case, I would save both of those and buy a FSH or HOFSH standard model to make a user.

Alternative 1: Or you can wait for the new BM.

Alternative 2: older models seem to be more available now on the forums or ebay.

USE THEM BOTH!

The practice of making knives safe queens gives a maker permission to make sub-quality, non-functional, garbage knives :grumpy:

User knives keep makers honest, hardworking, and constantly trying to improve their quality and designs :D :D :D

90% of the knives I bought from Busse have been beaten. The ones that weren't are waiting for a whipping. If I don't intend to use a knife I can't stand keeping it, and it will always be sold. I just don't understand, What's the point in spending hard earned money on possibly the best knives ever made to watch it collect dust?
When I get a new Busse knife I want to cut, stab, slash, hack, chop, pry - till my forearms sting and my hands are red. I want to see the epoxy coat go from Crinkle to smooth. I want to see the coating slowly recede from the edge to the spine, till it looks like a temper line of pain! This is the mark of performance cutlery as it meant to be. Don't you want to know what your knife is capable of?

Jerry places a no questions asked warranty on all his blades... so what are you worried about??? use them, use em all or else when you die next thursday, your kids will give them away to friends who will use them to open paint cans... :D

skunk is right...they're both safe queens. But on the bright side, you'll never have a better excuse to buy a beater!! :D

Buy a third one, and use them all!!!

Really, I have been selling all of my blades, to buy Busses. I've got an almost pure Busse collection of knives now, except for a few customs.

My brothers and I use our Busses hard, and they're very tough. We haven't been able to hurt one yet, except for adding a little character to the finishes. :D

Besides, I've got my own problems. I was the first to order a Fusion Steel Heart, so now I've got #1 on the way.

I'll take it.. just drop me an email
I know how times can be difficult :p

my basic plan at the moment is to get a HOFSH and make that a user- the problem is that I'm pretty sure I won't be able to wait until I can afford one of those. :( so I'll probably just have to control myself until next month and purchase the steel heart from the company store. of course, by that point the new model will be out and I'll want one of those as well.

I'm screwed. and thanks fellas, for showing me that I'm not alone in my newest obsession!

Just wait 'til your Busse addiction causes you to start selling wives or relatives you don't even have. ;) :D

"No, I ain't anemic.....Just over-drawn at the blood bank trying to finance my next Busse."

I can't afford a collection of knives. There are too many toys to buy in this world and I want to use all my toys. My FAT SFNO with tigerstripe micarta has some hard miles on it and I didn't know the tigerstripe was going limited so I went ahead and reshaped them rather dramatically. Now it is my Fat and Ugly NO. I love my F&U SFNO!

Use them both and enjoy them. When I asked about actually using a LE Busse, one of the hogs put it best..."Take a picture of it before you go and beat on it for the first time and enjoy the knife!" :)
