For All Newbie Heat Treaters -

Roger , that's well written. Of course that's where I got my training !!

Thanks bro, I will study this well.
In the meantime, I have been wanting to ask you guys something.
I am getting pretty seriuos about knifemaking, and I am trying to decide about what to do as far as deciding on the best equiptment to buy for Heat Treating?
I don't really have the beans for a nice Paragon oven or one of those EasyHeat (maybe they are the same oven, I have forgot?).
Anyhow, MAYBE on down the road I can afford one, but right now, I've got more important things to buy.
However, I was thinking the "one brick forge" deal might be a little TOO small of an operation. Yes, I'm sure they work, however, I would like to know what you guys suggest for me that will be a little more "permanent" (for lack of a better term) of a system, but won't kill my wallet like one of those digital ovens...
I have seen tons of forges, but I guess that tends to confuse more at times...
Thanks fellas.. I'm ready to do something about this, and end this dilemma with something fairly decent for HTing...

I will check that one out.
How much can the ovens be had for? Are we speaking of the Paragon here?
I know I've seeen them for $900-$1000. Can they be had for less?
I know if an oven was down near $500-$600, I'd be all over it...

rl,
This basic information on heat treat is a must for anyone doing there own.
Once you realize h.t. is not magic but science you are well on your way
to being a "knife maker" or a better informed buyer.
