For all of you Kukri fans out there. . .

Actually that site is how I discovered the khukuri. Don't waste your time ordering that s***box knife he recommends though. Its not hardened AT ALL. I did the project, then discovered HI, and got a real khuk. (An investment he calls silly on the site.) I have come up with a name for those blades. Khukrappies. They stink on ice. Now, the rest of his site is really neato.

I want to figure how or who can rehandle the big Khuk here...other than that nice article I favorited it. ; )

Those are some well loved blades! . It's always nice to see someone use there blades rather than put them in a safe. *Cough* some Busse owners *cough*:D .

There are so many different khuks offered by HI, it's almost impossible not to find one for your needs (if you need a khuk of course).

Looks like you've been around the block a few times. Are the KA-BAR khuks ok or crap? They seem to get fairly decent reviews.

The Kabar, and the Cold Steel versions are bent knives, and not real khukuri's at all. I'm not saying they are crap. I am saying that if you did a comparison you'd see they're just not khukuri's. Khuks are thicker, they're man made, they've got natural handle materials, and they employ the convex edge.

For a decent (no more than decent IMO) for close to 50 bucks a Khukuri House product is available. The warranty is almost impossible to use because of shipping back to Nepal. And in use, again, IMHO, they don't compare to HI or Tora.

Rehandling a khuk is a little more involved than rehandling a normal knife. What is wrong with the current handle? I would go to lengths to mod a khuk handle before rehandling. I've done them, and it is doable, but you've got to fit your scale to your bolster, and accept that the tang is hand hammered, and rough, so your fit to your scale is going to be precarious.

I rehandled mine when the buffalo horn split - I used half a hickory hatchet handle and epoxy. It stands up to everything I've thrown at it so far and feels a bit more hand friendly.

I agree with Fiddleback, I think that although you pay more for an HI or Tora, you know what your getting, both quality companies.
