Joss, there's a funny story that goes along with the Rybar. The Rybar was suppose to be a Bailey Bradshaw Bowie. I bought the Fuegan and the Bailey on the secondary market and CUSTOMS seized the Bradshaw. The Rybar was an even swap. The Rybar is really not my cup of java either but said what the hell. Everybody should own at least one Eagle headed guard and Horsehead pommel knife. The Rybar's OAL is 24". I did it more as a goof than anything else.

The Fuegen is my favorite amongst this group but I also like the workmanship in the others.

I spent some time at Blade speaking with Ray Rybar and admiring his damascus work. No mention of religion at all. My impression was he was a friendly guy with a sense of humor. I do agree that some of his designs were not to my liking either, but his damascus was impressive.

Technically impressive, yes, but I don't find it beautiful - personal taste issue I guess.

As for the religion thing, my issue has in fact less to do with religion per se than with his societal / political opinions. Several times he did the blessing at the ABS Show banquet in Reno, and used the pulpit to promote his views in a very divisive manner. Many people at my table were embarassed to see him using the ABS mantel to promote his own personal views.

His damascus also frequently includes religious themes, btw.

I happened by Coop's room at Blade just as he was getting done shooting that Rybar. Lots of interesting details in that piece, and visually impressive - even imposing - up close. The Fuegen is definitely my kinda knife in every respect. Just love his stuff.

Thanks for elaborating on that topic Joss. When I was at his table, I noticed a large custom that I found interesting. He explained the significance of the various symbols within the damascus blade. The woman that ordered it had requested them and the way he incorporated them into the damascus was fascinating.
