Hey guys, I recently did a knife in O-1 and I found the micro edge to chip ever so little chips when barely tapping it with a brass rod. It's the very finest part of the edge I'm refering to. Is this a sign of overheating? It's the only one so far this has happened to and I wonder what I did wrong. I did however only quench this one twice as opposed to three times. I test all my O-1 blades before putting the handles on so I'm thinking ...re-heat treat all together? Or quench one more time and then re-temper twice again.
Any ideas???:D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

I have to go watch Batman with my wife now.

what temperature did you temper it at??? and how long for how many times?

I tempered at 400f twice letting it cool completely in between. I will try to retemper and will post afterwards. Thanks.

Ok brian I'll try 425 today twice. I really don't want to loose this one because I did some file work that turned out pretty cool and I don't want it wasted ..ya know?? I'll post later today on how it went. Thanks

What is your heat source for hardening and what is it for tempering ?? It's very easy to overheat the edge and point. Black is not a temper color until you get toward 900F.
