I hope this isn't what they call deal spotting. If this is improper, my apologies and please do what you have to. 
I've been seeing a lot about wool here lately (gee, wonder why?) so I just thought I'd mention that Costco has some really nice 100% superfine(?) Merino wool v-necks for $20. Considering the last time I was in REI they were showing me wool t-shirts for $60, I bought two!
They're lightweight enough to use a a base layer (depending, of course) but fairly warm according to my very short test. Comfortable against bare skin, but went over a shirt fine too. Look a little too nice for roughing it, but if you put something suitably shabby over it I don't think anyone will notice!
