hello all. does anyone know of a good place on the net or through mailorder for picking up a pair of rattan bastons? this will be for hard use and training (to include sparring), b/t 26" and 28" in length. i've seen them sold for everything b/t $12/pair to over $20 per baston.. as far as designs go, the simpler the better. i have a no frills approach when it comes to training equipment. by the same token, i would rather spend a little more $$ on quality than end up with a splintered POS after a couple months.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

Try www.franksupply.com
I ordered 12 28" rattan bastons w/ skin (the company refers to them as rattan "poles")recently and I can say they are sturdy. I've been banging them in doble drills for a few weeks now and I'm still using the first two I picked up out of the box. You can order the diameter of your choice. I picked the 1" diam. Looking at their catalog right now, they list at $2.50 each. or $9.00 for 9ft. pole. They also have a rattan w/out skin, and a "tiger" burned rattan.
There are a few other out there as well. Kombat Istruments limited are said to have some really awesome sticks and around your area there is a company whom I've done business with for a few years. They're called East/West Martial Arts, and they have awesome sticks as well (still have three that have been beaten on for over two years). I've only had one stick from I & I Imports last more than a week, and I bought it in 1989. I still have it and it was unbroken until Feb. 1997 (Tuhon McGrath broke it with a #1 strike)!

Check out Kombat Instruments Limited. www.bloodsport.com. The KIL sticks are distributed by one of the Dog Brothers and used by many members. I've used them and been impressed with their density and overall strength. They are not cheap but quite durable.
