I know both are popular with contestants but I'm curious about which one is now winning the contests. And what the reason for it is. Please advise.

There are a lot of BladeSports cutting championships. For the World Championships, Dwayne Unger won in 2018 and James Clifton won in 2017, both with CPM M4 blades.

But Dan Keffeler was second both times with Vanadis 4E. And Dan won a bunch before that.

Both steels are great for this competition. My own sense is that V4E will be a bit tougher than M4, but M4 will hold an edge a bit better. Heat treat and geometry, as well as skill and luck, will also play a huge role.

Dwayne Unger? He's a cheat in my book...

There are only cut tests competitions in Russia from what I remember and not to many of us here know about them or follow them. If you've seen some, what contests have you seen? Any links?

In blade sports I see alot of M4 and 3v etc. This is for chopping in blade sports.

For rope cutting you probably want 15v which has some records in Russia. But the heat treatment on these knives is pretty intense.

Where can I learn more about these competitions?

M4
makes my heart a flutter and my knees all weak.

The three sisters that cause this . . .
(Don't tell The Chef; she thinks these are "just" knives).

Thanks for the info. The cutting contest I have seen have everything from paper, rope, water bottle slicing to 2x4 chopping. I know Gayle Bradley was sponsored by Spyderco and went to a bunch of these cutting contests.

People have been saying Russians are more advanced than Americans regarding knives for some years. That this is only now becoming a mainstream question has to seriously bring into focus that they may be.
