I picked up a Pack Rat (1665) PE a few weeks ago, and I just noticed Saturday night that the tip of the blade actually rests against the back spacer in the closed position, rather than the blade tang stopping against the stop pin. There's about a .25" long shallow groove now in the back spacer where the blade's tip rests on it. I emailed Kershaw about it and am waiting for a response, but I figured I'd also check with you other Pack Rat owners to see if yours is the same way. It's not a huge deal and I otherwise love the knife, I'm just curious if this has to do with the design of the knife or if mine is out of spec in some way. Thanks in advance.

I love Kershaw knives and feel that they represent the best bang for the buck out of any production folders however this particular problem resides in probably 25% of the kershaws I own. Its a minor nuisance and bugs the crap out of me but its really not much of a functional problem. After you fully develop the groove in the plastic backspacer it won't go any deeper so once its there it won't be touching or dulling the blade edge any longer. I have however taken the backspacer out on one of them and sanded it down so that it would not touch but I found it to be too much trouble for what I got out of it. This is unfortunately a flaw I have found on many kershaws I have but still believe them to be awesome folders for the price.

Thanks, nevermind. I see it the same way, a minor nuisance more than anything else, but (like you) once I noticed it it started bugging me. :D I picked it up new on the bay for $41 and change, and for the price the rest of the knife is phenomenally finished. Absolutely beautiful. I took it down to put some grease on the torsion bar and was extremely impressed with the degree of finish on the inside as well. It's definitely a keeper, I just wondered about this issue, given the otherwise excellent build quality. Thanks again for the reply.
