For the ladies, or guys that have ladies that carry. How do you carry in a purse. I don't mean the purse holsters, I mean a regular purse. Do you have the handgun holstered in some manner? In a holster in a pocket? My wife's carry permit should be here anytime. I'm thinking she at least needs a pocket holster for it to be in in the pocket.

A cheap clip-on IWB holster is likely to be helpful. If she can't clip it to an internal divider she can safety-pin it in there, or just place it in the purse. Everything depends on the particular purse she wants to use....

A female cop had her purse removed from her in a mall parking not too far from where I live. Gun was in it, of course. Now, I'm not saying that one should not carry off the body like that; but there is that downside. If someone is going to rob a woman, first thing they will do is relieve her of the purse. Same thing with a manpurse, I'm guessing. Just something to cogitate on.

That is the main problem with a purse carry, that is the object a mugger often concentrates on. We teach that if purse carry is going to be used the purse should be large enough for the hand to be grasping the firearm when in high risk areas such as a parking lot, walking alone on the street, etc. This way if the purse is snatched from behind the purse may go but the firearm will be retained. A loop fastened under a grip panel for the wrist can further insure it's retention. As stated and decent clip on holster should be workable clipped inside the purse or a pocket holster may work. During the winter carry in a coat pocket might be preferable. Another problem with the purse carry is that if the firearms is easily and quickly accessible then it is probably visable when the purse is opened, this can cause problem when paying for the groceries. I would add that for casual wear belly bands are not bad options under looser fitting clothing.

Some teach carrying the purse with the strap cross shoulder carried to make it more difficult to snatch but I don't favor this as a determined mugger can cause severe neck injuries trying to gain control of the purse.

As a woman who carries everyday, I DO NOT like off body carry at all, and therefore I do NOT carry my gun off my person.
