Hey all,
Mel sent me the picture below. Its a Wooden handled SCHRADE +. I know we talked about these LTD knives in the past but Im drawing a blank. Blame it on CRS. Mel says the knife is about 3 1/2" closed. It looks to me like the 895/6 pattern but I cant find a reference to it without a shield or stamping. I know DU did a few like this.

Anyone have a clue?

Hi Larry,

Maybe like the Trapper at the top...made for Wal*Mart, I believe.

WOW, This is a great way to get the wood out!
Like the trapper but not as finished as the commeratives.
Whos got another?

I have two of these, both bought at Wall-mart... A two blade Trapper called the Crimson Trapper # 296WC, and a three blade that the box just states that it has Crimson birch handle treatment. #98WC. I'm new to this form... Never really thought that I was a collector till the wife pointed out that I have too many knives for a normal person. Mostly Schrades. I have learned much in just a few days on this form. Thanks.

Gypsy, Red, Bill and Codger.
Looks like the Wal-mart version was the winner. Mel dropped me a note saying that was the most likley candidate.
Thanks for all the posts.
Im gonna look up those walmat numbers and if I find anything more I'll let you all know

I'm a bit slow with this info, but here it is.

The 98WC and 296WC Crimson Birch knives were produced for Wal-Mart beginning in February of 2002 for delivery beginning in April. Each pattern was initially slated for 6-8,000 pieces. I have no idea how many of this initial order were made and shipped, or if there was one or more subsequent orders.

Specs were: New item for Walmart using (98/296) knife with new crimson birch handles, N/S threaded bolsters, polished stainless steel blades and Schrade+ LTD tangstamp.

As an aside, I believe the wood handles were impregnated and milled by Fibron Products of Buffalo, NY., the holders of the trademark "Pakkawood". Their process sends the plastic resin all the way through the wood, so it is colorfast, dimensionally stable, and easily milled. I believe they also supplied the oak, and other wood handles to Schrade, and likely to Camillus as well. I'll look further into this and issue a correction/update as the information develops.

Codger

Codger; Thanks for the information on the knife. It was a gift from my
Grandson who is home on leave from the Marines. I didnt want to ask
him about it. You know look a gift horse in the mouth.
Thanks, Mel
