not the greatest pics, I really should have aligned them by the index finger position, not the tips
They are very close in size, but with some key differences. When I designed the handle for the sar5 mod I marked the finger and palm swell to coincide with my palm center and middle/ring finger. The boss street's finger swell is closer to being on my middle finger, but the difference in hand is negligible.
it's kinda surprising how close the two are. The sar5 = 7.2oz, the boss street 8.8oz, but they both balance at about the same place, right in between the index and middle finger. You had mentioned that you felt that the boss street was really handle heavy, so it's worth noting that my sar5 mod is identical in it's balance.
sar5 handle is 9/16" thick vs boss street's 11/16", which makes for a flatter handle. kinda gives more feedback during use, but the rounder grip of the boss street with it's light quilted machining pattern feels better.
The big deference between the two is the use of transition spaces. I don't have as much after the pinky where the boss street has an exposed pommel, I have a chevron shaped ricasso side scale, where the boss street is flat (farther forward). The start of the grind is closer to the hand on the sar5 and the gaurd is actually thinner as it retains some of the original sar5's grind. It makes for more knife and an equivalent amount of used handle space in the same package.
All that said, if I could get a choiless boss street, I'd switch over to it in a heart beat. Grind off the exposed pommel, or grind off the tail end of the micarta slabs and leave an exposed pommel similar to the public defender and you'd move the balance closer to the index finger.
