I made a knife for a guy who promptly asked me to make another only larger, it is almost done.

I made this one, 12 inches of 1/4" 5160

and he asked If I could make one 2 inches longer...

Here it is as of tonight. I can't finish it cause I'm moving the next few days, but I thought I'd say hi to Blade Forums with a couple pics.

Comments or Criticism welcome, But be Gentle, I've only been making knives for almost 3 months now and I can see by the other knives posted here that obviously I have a long way to go.

But I'm having a ball learning. I have spent literally hours looking at the Bowie contest threads the last few weeks. :) Drool!

Here is My "Large Bowie" Attempt.

14 inches with 8 inch Blade. 5/32 1084 steel quenched using clay. My best Hamon attempt so far. I think It will clean up well.

Here is my Other Bowie, I don't know just why but I love working on the Bowie knives. This one is forged from a leaf spring, 12 inches long 1/4 inch thick. I made the guards and Bolsters on all 3 out of 5160.

If you've only been making knives for 3 months, then I'd say you're off to a running start my friend! That's a pretty cool hamon you've got going on there in the second image. Keep up the good work and be sure to keep us posted on your progress!

impressive work, attractive designs
the clear sheath is very interesting

Thanks, Mid November I got it in my head to make knives for Christmas presents, I spent a couple days watching you tube videos and made myself a forge and Borrowed an anvil.

This was my first knife and my first time forging anything,

By the time I had made a few RR spike knives I switched to coil and leaf spring knives. This is some of the knives I gave away for Christmas.

Then The people I gave knives to, started showing them to people and After Christmas Almost every knife I have made has been sold before it was done. Since I am new I just try to get enough out of a knife to make a few more knives, and I'm happy doing that.

I made My self an EDC carry knife that has also generated a few knife sales so I should be busy for a little while at least making knives for others. The way I figure it, if I can get someone else to pay for the materials then I get to keep making knives for free. Sort of a paid education so to speak lol.

here is my EDC.

Lorien, Thanks. The clear sheath is Holstex. I found it to be much more difficult to get good results with than Kydex. I plan on learning how to work with leather next. Some knives just need leather.

Those knives you posted are absolutely lovely, especially your bowie designs. You can really tell that you out a lot of time and soul into them. I'm guessing you're gonna make some great friends here.

Those are nice! Look better than mine! What kind of grinder are you using?
