For my next camping/fishing trip

I think this is going to be great for my next camping/fishing trip. It's small enough to carry around with out intimidating the other campers, but big enough for cleaning trout and other small chores.

Can anyone give me some info about the sheath? It has "Buck" snaps but isn't stamped with Buck or anything else but The DU logo. It fits the 102 and the 501 perfectly.

PD, I always liked that sheath... I think that's the way they came... That's all you need for camping or fishing and a 119... .... I like the knives too.... :D

Kinda sporty looking Dave!!
Mike Wallace suggested a 102 for a steak knife.
See your all ready for the Longhorn.

Thanks ITE, I bought the sheath empty, then got the 102 by it's self (with a black foldover sheath). I have several 501's, so I just have to pick one to use.

Plumber,I didn't know Buck made such a sheath. As I've not seen one before.Nice setup though.I think it would do fine for what your thinking.DM

I only assume that it's a Buck sheath since that's what the snaps say. I suppose they could be phonys but it seems like a lot of trouble to go to for a sheath.

They are about right for what I need when camped out. My idea of "roughing it" is when a tree is blocking the satellite dish on the motorhome or I don't have a 50 amp circuit to plug into.;)

Cool sheath Dave, is that the 102 I sent you the p.m about?
If so, it looks much better than the sellers pics...

Yes it is and I've been meaning to say thanks, but I had a case of "old timers" and forgot who told me about it. :o It is a slick little knife and in great condition.

Thanks for putting me onto it.

Your welcome. I understand the old timers, I'm only 48 and I have a hard time remembering what I did two days ago

Thats a good looking setup, can't be to many of those floating around

Plum,

I keep looking at this rig and the knives. Did you get the sheath first and fit the knives or did it all come together as a package?

You've got a 4 spacer 3 line 102 and a micarta 501. Both of those knives are most likely 70's knives so 440c. When you think about it that's a really good combination to take camping. Add a hefty camp knife and/or camp ax and your all set. Since your idea of camping is pulling the UAV up; hooking up next to the other UAVs, you don't have any weight restrictions for you knife kit on camping.

Have you bought one of these? I have one in yellow and it's the real deal for light duty axe work at the camp site.

Yes Flats, I bought the sheath before I had the 102. I have two of the micarta 501's (the other is near new) and the one in the picture was polished up and sharpened for me by Buck when I sent the red and black phony to them. 338375 told me about the 102 that was offered by someone in the "for sale" forum (not the Buck only one) and I picked it up at a good price.

I might just have to have one of the axes just because they are cool. I don't ever remember needing one when we've been "camped". I never build a campfire because my wife can't tolerate the smoke. For a hefty camp knife, I have a Pro Line 120 that should do the job.

Plumberdv I have one of those sheaths that I had bought straight from Buck during the 20 year anniversary. So that should tell you that is a real Buck sheath. I have not tried to use mine yet, it is in a box of sheaths that I bought from Buck when they offered them to us at a really good price. HL

That's good to hear, thanks. I didn't really care either way though. It's such a great fit for both knives, I'd have used it anyway. Since Flatlander let me know that the 102 is an older knife, I'm putting it away along with it's flap over sheath. I picked up a new 102 to use around camp.
