I will state my experience of the 3 main complaints circulating:

1. The black coating - it does not flake off as some are concerned about, it just slowly thins out in a very natural way.

2. The stiff mechanism out of the box: after a week of solid use it flicks open smoothly and easily.

3. The tight clip: my advise get an after market clip or take to it with some pliers if you are handy.

The more I use this knife the more I use it if you know what I mean.

Disappears in your pocket and just feels reliable, sturdy and an extension of your body in the hand. Edge is holding up great so far.

The black coating that people complained about flaking off was the aus8 painted versions, and it was a coating only in name. If you bought current production yours is dlc.

Aus8 versions were noticeably more difficult to open.

Pocket clips on cold steels are a very well known issue that in general, are an easy fix like you describe.

Yes, that pretty well sums up my experience as well.

Great knife. Mine is in CTS-XHP, takes a very fine edge and holds it a long, long time. Had to tweak the clip though -- took it off, clamped it in a vise and bent it out a tad.

One of the CS knives I’d love to try. Seems like such practical design and the lock is rock solid.

I have a Lawman in cts xhp and a newer one in s35vn . The newer version has a back lock that is easier to release.

Before getting the Lawman about 7 years ago, a black blade was usually a no go for me.. The Lawman was such a great work/edc knife, that now I don t mind black blades with dlc. The Recon 1 reinforced that.

I used to take the clip off to adjust the tightness. Now I just use a needle nose pliers to adjust the clip while it is on the handle. Very simple.
