I'm posting this one for Ravenwolf. He was nice enough to let me play with the standard Poll Hawk design and, like I normally to, twist it around into something of my own creation. I hope you like it.

This is a variation of the standard "Poll" Hawk. The 8" head of 5160 high carbon steel is edge quenched on either end and then acid etched. It has a 19" shaft of A-grade Curly Maple wood with a black Pig skin handle wrap and nickle/steel pins and studs. The top/bottom caps of the shaft are stabilized/green dyed Maple Burl wood with black spacers. The piece is finished off with a top, "Turks Head" knot and of course, the pierced "paw" in the blade. RW wanted to be able to carry both on his belt or a strap so Tess made a case sheath with a belt loop you could hang on your belt or run a shoulder strap through.

great job  ! Is there a benifit to having a curved cutting edge as opposed to one that is mostly straight??

I know someone who is going to be a happy camper . Well done . The very edge almost looks like it was hollow ground . Is it just a trick of the light ? That pierced paw is incredible .

That hawk is incredible.
And after perusing your web-site, please accept my compliments - every piece is just fantastic.

That's AWESOME!!! I'm SO ready to get me a nice hawk. I'm sure someone will be quite happy w/that one.

Hi all,
I don't post much on here, just lurk a lot. I just received the Poll Hawk J. Neilson posted for me on this thread. I will tell you that the pictures don't do justice to the real deal. The Poll Hawk is very well balanced and has just the right amount of head weight for light chopping chores. That's right, I'm going to use this one (no matter how pretty she is), at least lightly. Sometimes you just got to be the envy of all around the campsite.

Honestly, I can tell you J. and Tess are great people and I have enjoyed talking with them about projects that they have made for me. This is the forth item they have produced for me and as always their pieces are both very functional and beautiful. What a team. I highly recommend them to anyone wishing for a unique handmade knife or hawk. As you can see I am very pleased with my latest acquisition from them. I will give a full report on the Hawk later on this fall after a bear/deer backpacking hunt.....RW

J, thats by far the nicest looking hawk I've seen of yours! Trying to figure out what tribe is a problem. :D It has a very unique look. Was the bear claw from a stamp you made?

Thanks Ray, that means alot to me coming from you. The paw was pierced and then hand filed out. Making a stamp would be a great idea...if only I had that much talent. ;)

Thanks again RW, I'm glad your pleased with it.

J, Don't tell me you don't have enough talent. Doing that paw the way you did it shows me you got an excess of talent unless Tes did it for you....... :D
