Hi fellow knife nuts,

I check out bladeforums daily and daily I see Knives that have my interest, both 100-500 euro production folders and 400-2000+ custom folding Knives. Bladeforums is a community with knife users and collectors all over the world. For european members it would be more interesting to buy from european bladeforum members because of import taxes.

For example. If i would buy a marfione custom matrix $2450 from an american based member, that equals about €2230 on this moment. Paying for the knife through paypal is €0,35 + 3,4% (for the netherlands) of the price (equals €76) At customs i would pay €13 euro handling costs, plus 21% of €2230 equals €468.

Total i need to pay to get it here is €2787, this is $3056,-

Buying from european based members would save me €481,-... Which is in my opinion a lot of money.

Maybe bladeforums admins can think about opening a "for sale by individuals [europe]" topic. This will not exclude american members from buying from european members, but simply make transactions between european buyers/ sellers easier. Just like the sale/ trade topic for canadian based members

I agree to a certain extent. I mean, I don't sell outside the US because of the risk involved. Believe me, I would love to but this is a hobby for me not a business. Can't take the risk.

I know it sucks for you guys not only for my reasons not to sell to you and also your reasons for making this thread. The problem is, I think if there was a separate forum, it could get complicated for the mods. Because, let's face it, there are big differences between the rules and customs agencies with the various Euro countries. Problems would arise and the mods would have to deal with it. I don't know though, maybe it would be fine.
 
What would be nice is is more Euro dealers became supporting members of Bladeforums. We had one or two at one point. But it doesn't do much good unless you advertise and participate. That was the downfall of the dealers from Europe.
 
Is there any possibility to see where members are from? I mean most of the times the location has not been filled in. Like graytab says, many dont ship outside US and even if they do, shipping it with another value on it to prevent high import is risky because if it's lost in the mail, the package insurance won't pay out.

For me it is a hobby as well, but i also like to use my knives for EDC purposes. So a minty knife like i used in my example that i have to pay lots of money to get it here, and when i get to a point of selling it will worth be a-third of what i paid. That way it gets too expensive.

I hope mods like my idea, and in the near future i can buy within the EU.
