For Sale: Production Knives - New 24 Hour Rule

So I noticed the new sticky in the For Sale: Production Knives (Individual) Forum.

For those who've not seen it:

"Please note that when you drop the price on an item that you've listed for sale, PLEASE do NOT edit the price from your previous posts in the thread to reflect your new, lower price, as doing so, it doesn't look like the price was dropped, which will result in an infraction being issued. Please post your new price only in the new posting in that thread.

Also, a price-reduction of a dollar or two just won't cut it. It needs to be a price-reduction of at-least $5 for it to count as a price reduction, and not just a means to "BTT" your thread. A price-reduction can only be made once every 24 hours."

Thank-You.

This, I think, is the first time I've seen a rule here on BF that seems be overly restrictive.

I can understand placing some time limit on BTT price drops.

But 24 hours seems excessive to me.

I understand the intent, but. . . .

"Please note that when you drop the price on an item that you've listed for sale, PLEASE do NOT edit the price from your previous posts in the thread to reflect your new, lower price, as doing so, it doesn't look like the price was dropped, which will result in an infraction being issued. . . . .but. . . dayum.

If I edit the original post in a for sale thread, a date/time stamp is recorded. If I state the price has been lowered. . . .it was lowered. Receiving an infraction for suspected integrity issues ? :barf:

The reasoning seems clear to me:

- Some BTT with a useless price drop to keep there thread up to the top.

- If the original prices and subsequent prices remain, it's more clear to the moderator that you're following the rules.

Yeah, that doesn't make sense. I'm going to discuss this with glockman

I agree Spark that something about this won't work. For example, I have noticed in my own for sale threads that when an item sold and I made a post indicating it was no longer available several replies further down the page that I still got replies later from guys wanting to buy a knife that had been sold. Sometimes they'd already been gone for quite a while and in one case a member actually paid me for a knife I already shipped out and sold to someone else and all due to reading the first post and not scrolling down.

So, I think it should be allowed to edit and change prices in the first post personally. I personally like doing this whenever I make a new post to that effect anyway.

Go ahead and delete that sticky with my blessing. Maybe I AM being too much of a hard-ass with this 72 hour BTT thing, trying to keep thread pages from going off page 1 in a matter of a couple hours, etc., so I'll step-back and tone it down.:(.

There has to be a way for this new rule to be tweaked a little bit so that it serves it's purpose. I like the idea of keeping things fair for everyone, but pricing info needs to be available at the top of the page so that people know what they are looking at without having to scroll down( which unless the price looks appealing is something that they won't do).

Maybe this would be best served if people could close their own threads when items are sold? As for the BTT, post the price drops in the OP as well as the newest post, so it'd go from

$100
$90
$85
$80
$75
etc.

I probably should make a strikethrough tag as well.

I've seen guys change the original price to gray color and the new price next to it they leave dark or in red. So the sequence of price drops is clear, like $200 $190 $175

That would be excellent!...

Yeah, I've often thought that closing your own thread would make it easier for everybody, sellers, moderators, and buyers. Or, allow the title line to be edited to include a "Sold" tag. That would do the trick also.

Ok, strikethrough text has been added to the vBcode list. It's tag is, naturally, [ strike ][ /strike ] without the spaces.

Example: BladeForums.com is horrible AWESOME!

I've always tried to use this method for price drops, as well as "SOLD" notice in the OP.

Keeps down the "Is this still available?" contacts later on.
