? for sebbie owners - should I be worried?

I've been enjoying the new sebbie very much... flicking it, working it in for smoothness... but then I noticed that the lock bar goes pretty far across the back of the blade when it locks. It has great lockup, absolutely solid, but compared to my other three titanium framelocks, the bar goes over way farther. So I am going to post four pictures - a cuda maxx, a skirmish, a dominator, and finally the sebenza. You'll see the difference immediately. Is this normal for the breed? Do I have anything to worry about?

Take it apart and rotate the blade stop slightly. That will probably fix it. CRK says that 75% contact is within specs. If you can't get yours to that or less, send it to CRK and they'll make it right at no charge.

I always appreciate how I can get good info here. If some other folk have the same sort of thing, and their's is fine, that makes me feel better. I mean, you spend over $400 for a knife, and you don't know the knife well, you want to be sure you got the good stuff. The lockup is rock solid and maybe that last 25% of the tang will take 20 years to wear over. If not, this thing has a lifetime warranty, eh?

I did open it up, rotate the blade stop... maybe a tiny bit of difference? Nothing dramatic. But seeing it from the inside let me understand the knife better; it's both dirt simple but very elegant on the inside, from a design point of view, and comes back together very well, very easily. I took the opportunity to completely clean out the factory lube and although I didn't polish the washers, I used a very light lubricant "with teflon" on the inside. I think this will help the break in.

I guess I'm like a new father. Maybe I'll stop posting about the new baby for a while.

:)

i personally don't like a lock that scarcely engages at all, like in your second pic. the rest look good to me.

I agree with ginaz. I think if you're going to have a problem, it's going to be with the knife in pic 2.

That would scare the heck out of me on a framelock. I'd take it as a plus that your Sebenza locks so well

#2 was the camillus dominator. I'll have to take a closer look at that thing.

I took the sebbie apart, flipped the screws because I saw some guy do that and it looked really good with the shiny "non screw" sides on the non lock side, and now the engagement makes me a little happier. It's still pretty far over.. but not like all the way over. maybe between 66% and 75%.

Came back together easily and perfectly, still has that amazing blade centering with just a hair of space between blade and handle when closed. I feel the cult closing in...

Again, I am most appreciative of the comments here.

Mine does the same thing. If I open it hard the bar will travel over more than it would if I were to open it regularly. Yours is within spec and I wouldn't worry about it. Slamming it open puts a lot more stress on the pivot. Your Sebbie would more than likely be able to withstand many flickings without compromising the knife but CRK doesn't recommend flicking except when newly reassembled. The flicking will help seat the washers. I would avoid flicking and just open it normally. Before you know it it will be smooth as glass.:cool:;)

I think your Sebenza is fine. I have several Sebenzas, and the lock bar position is different for each. As long as it is not flopping around, the lock will do its job without any problems.

Looks great!

When I get a new Sebbie I flick it hard untill is locks up like your pic. And yes, that other 25% will take the many many years to use up. Even then I'm sure if CRK is still up and running, they would fix it

Also have to say nice pics.

They really show how beefy the Ti is compared to the "others." And look at the lockup next to the "others." These combined with your pic with the hair of space between the blade and the scales, really show why a Sebenza is in a class by it's self.
