For self defense, spike or wide blade?

Some knives have very narrow blades made for stabbing motion. Would that make a better SD blade type than the typical drop point wide blade?

Just lose the drop point. You do want a somewhat wide blade for strength and a larger wound channel. A blade with a straigth back or maybe a slight trailing point insures a sharp cutting edge at the tip end of the blade. For slashing the last couple inches of blade are particularly critical. A thin, razor sharp, back-curved belly on the blade is important. I prefer that to a double-edged or spear point blade. Think saber rather than rapier.

My favorite spearpoint knife is the CS Ti-Lite.The point will pierce with almost no effort at all.I just done "attacking" some old sofa cushions with it.By slashing,I got 2-3 inches deep cuts thru the covers and into the foam.Maybe not the best slasher knife I have but acceptable deep cuts for me.Of course,I could only use the first 2 inches or so of the blade because of the straight blade and handle. It has to be kept razor sharp too.;)
