For some reason I want a Higonokami

The more I see pics of these, the more I would like to have one. I don't want a cheap imitation of one, but I also don't want to spend a fortune either. I've looked on www.japaneseknifedirect.com and on www.japanblades.com and have seen a few nice ones, and one that is not so traditional, but really nice!

Surprisingly, again I'm guessing, all of those shown are under $200, not that I want to spend that much though.

I picked up the large traditional a while back. Just on EBay, if I remember correctly. It's an excellent user- VERY sharp and finely ground.

I have EDCed this one quite a bit in the past. Once you get used to the fact that it has no spring or lock it is quite versatile and handy knife.:thumbup:
 
I really like the look of those damascus ones in the OP. Here's a traditional my father gave me.

The design is 'unusual' but perfectly functional.
 
I picked up a black handled one of of Ebay a while back as well. They are a neat little design that is super lightweight and extremely flat for pocket carry. One thing I don't like is that the blade grind gets thick pretty quickly, so it's not great for cutting things like cardboard. Another thing is that the thin metal handle can be hard on the hand for extended cutting.

handmade in Japan by the Nagaokoma company, each one has a FORGED blade, something you won't find in many large scale production knives
they all are under 50 bucks :thumbup:
