I've been carrying my benchmade griptilian 551s and can't seem to like it. I feel like i wasted 100$...The tip up is weird, i feel like its a big hunk in my pocket, the partial serrations drive me nuts and it feels top heavy. Does anybody agree? If i had another choice i'd get the d2 with the hole and plain edge. I think i'm going to switch to my kershaw blur. How much of an edge retention difference will i see? I just love the feel of the blur and feel the full plain edge will serve me better.

I never warmed up to the full size grip. They feel like those utility knives with the spare blades inside that you unscrew with a coin. regarding serrations, give me all or nothing, partial makes little sense to me. You really should try a mini-grip, they are nothing like their bigger brother.

Yeah. I was on a trip about to go out to Maine for a month and decided to go out on a wim and buy a grippy since everyone here raves about em. I've never been a partial serrations guy but all they had was a thumbstud partial serration version. No matter how much i try and like it i just can't. I hate how it feels. The partial serrations bug me the most and no matter what i cant see them being useful. I feel like i wasted 106$.

I bought a full size Grip couple years back and came to dislike it. The cheap feel and an uncomfortable handle just sealed its fate. I sold it. Just because a lotta folks love the Grips doesn't mean they're for everyone.

If the Blur fits you better than use it. I personally don't like serrations and feel a plain edge can do 98% or what a serrated blade can do. You seem to have already made up your mind. :) Go for the Blur!

I did find this out lol. I will use it at some point. Just not now. Who knows what the future holds.

I ordered some spare parts for it, i don't remember if i said that yet or not. I love the feel, fit and finish of it. Its an amazingly comfortable knife. I prefer plain edge for an EDC but i would also like to have a fully serrated pocket knife. I am able to deal with the P.S. on my Buck X-tract. Love that blade. My Swisstool also has a plain edge and a serrated edge but i feel like a pocket knife is easier to deploy for cutting than the swisstool.

You need a Spyderco my friend.... I Went from BM to Spyderco and havent looked back for a couple years. (still like BM, but I've been buying more Spydies)

Can you return it to where you bought it?

If not, I'm sure you can sell it for a negligible loss.

I'm a Ritter Grip fan as I like the blade shape, but even then I didn't much care for the full-size Grips as an EDC. Okay for a "pack" knife, but not in the pocket.

I aquired some of the Wilkins scales and it totally changed the knife - now I don't mind carrying it, but it really isn't a Griptillian anymore.

The mini-Grips are nice, though. Seems to me that there is more magic in the mini size knife.

I love both of my full size Grips, but I have big hands. I can't stand serrations though, I avoid them at all costs

I had a full size grip and loved the way it fit in my hand, it was just larger than i like to EDC normally. So I sold it and now have a mini ritter on the way :D Yummy S30V.... I know it's off topic (kind of) but where have y'all found is the best place buy Wilkins scales online?

Ive had the full size and thought the same thing. The mini is great, my wife just bought me a wilkins mini with plain edge and i love it. Sell it and get the one you want. Or keep it and put it in your pack. As for serrations im with ya i never ever buy a serrated knife. There is nothing a sharp plain edge cant cut that a serrated knife can. Besides they ruin the look of a knife.

To buy wilkins handles on line go to moore cutlery , gary owns it and is a great guy to deal with.

I couldn't warm up to the Grip either - and I tried. I read so much from so many about how great the knife is that I felt like I was missing out on something.

I handled one every time I went into the local knife store, and it left me cold.

I even looked into the replacement grips, but talked myself out of it.

Thats one of my problems - no matter how great the knife is, if it doesn't have curb appeal for me I never carry it after buying it.

The 551sbk was one of my first quality knives. The only thing that bothered me about it was the CE. I can understand the feeling of bulkyness or the cheapy feeling, but those things didn't bother me at the time. Sell the knife at a small loss and buy something new. One of the best things about knives is going through a bunch of ones you don't end up keeping.

Serrations suck...

I've looked at the Ritter Grip for a long time, but the plastic handles have stayed my hand.

It looks like a great utility piece though. Sure wish they'd make it in G-10.
