I was finally able to get a day at home today and I visited my FFL to pick up a pair of Rock River Arms 1911s that they had been holding for me. I found these while I was working out of town and have been waiting, not so patiently, to pick them up. These are without a doubt the finest 1911s I own or may ever own. I normally don't care for coated 1911s and prefer stainless or blued, but the tan on these is great in person. I took a couple pictures with a Busse so that I wouldn't be completely off topic here. Enjoy.

One more, this is the 50 Yard test target that came with the Commander. I am amazed at the accuracy this gun is capable of. I won't get anywhere close to this level of accuracy, but knowing the gun is capable sure can't hurt.

Very nice!!!!

Is Rock River back in the 1911 business or are these old stock?

They are still not accepting any new orders. These were two I stumbled across at a gun store that were built in early '09 as an existing backorder. From what I was told by Rock River last week, they are not going to be accepting new orders, but they still have a couple guns trickling out that were previously backordered. Unfortunately you can't order them directly from Rock River, but if you find one of the dealers that had a backorder on the books before they stopped taking orders in '08 you might find one. It would be well worth it to stalk some old dealers for one. The store I picked these up at sell Wilson Combat, Ed Brown, Les Baer, Nighthawk, SA, Colt, Kimber...etc, and these held their own with all of them.

Cool score! That's the way to stalk what you want!!

Interesting that you say that. I had gone into the shop to handle a few more Wilson Combats to see what features I really wanted on a gun that I was going to order. I was going to order a Government now and in a few years order a Commander to match. Before RRA stopped making 1911s I had always wanted to do the same with RRA. I gave up on that after researching the scarcity of their guns coupled with the fact I could not order them anymore. I just happened to get lucky that Saturday. I guess you never know what you will stumble across when you least expect it.

Who made the leather? It looks like a standard Nelson Professional/Askins Avenger shape.

That is a Bulman holster and Mag pouch. I had several holsters made by him a few years ago and they are still my favorite. I only wish the 4" IWB I had made back then had not been fitted for my 4" Kimber and would fit this Commander sized RRA. No worries though, my holster order from TT Gunleather arrived at the post office yesterday. I will have to wait to pick it up next trip home, but here is a preview of what the holsters look like. All mag pouches and holsters are in the same trim and I got Commander and Government sized OWB and IWB since I tend to carry differently all the time depending on weather and dress. Beltman made belts for me in the same brown leather and also in a black elephant. I have been planning and waiting for these guns and holsters for a while.
