Bought a new house and had a plug installed for the breaker so that i can plug my generator directly into the house for emergencies. The generator outlet is 4 prong and the house inlet is 3 prong (pics attached). Would it be best to change out the receptacle on house to 4 (if there are 4 wires, havent looked), or can the cord between them be wired from 4 wire to 3 wire? Or would i be best going out from the RV ready 3 prong to house 3 prong. The house is mostly gas, so the power will be for fridge/lights

Is there a disconnect to switch the fuse box from the power lines to the generator power?

I would make up a cord from the generator to that house plug. If you are not 100% sure how to do it....make that 110% sure.......... , have the electrician that did the plug make up the connector extension.

What Stacy said about the disconnect from the power lines .. If you do not have that you are putting a line mans life at risk .

Yes, there is a disconnect. This was built as a feature of the home when built so that the generator can power the house. Waiting for a call back from the electrician, but wanted to see if anyone knew as I am not an electrician at all ha.

you need to know how the house plug is wired . 2 hots and a neutral or 1 hot , a neutral and a ground .

That is the exact reason you need an electrician.
