As you can see, I "need" it. (And I won't pay the one I'm not willing to name three times as much as he paid for it to get one.) A hollow ground, sharpened railroad spike of INFI would be the center piece of my collection!

Here's my Inactive Duty compared to my Boney Active Duty. Interestingly the Elmax Duty is thinner than the Boney INFI Duty.

Who's with me?

I'll buy Ur Railroad spike (inactive duty) for more than U payed for it

You have excellent taste my man!

And another bad azz collection too

Very nice EDC collection! The duty line is definitely up to the task!
I don't think I have seen any elmax thicker than that yet?

My Busse collection is Battle Mistresses, Active Duties and an equal number of odds and ends. I really hope that the sharpened railroad spike death chant/chat will gain some traction. If Jerry was hyping it everyone would be on board. Do you guys realize with Busse Combat's current quality, volume and turn around it would be an EPIC model?!

Pretty sure all the Busse (and kin) Elmax has been 0.090” stock.

I have read that the Busse Elmax was ran at 60-62 HRC, but that number is what the Scrapmax's were ran to.

I want to say that I read about the Max Duties being ran around 58-60, but I am not definite.

If this is not the case and they were both ran to 60-62, then this would put the hardness up with the BAD and possibly have higher abrasive edge wear resistance, along with a more acute edge geometry, making for a nicer slicing knife.
Though the Max Duty is saber ground, right?

Hmm, food for thought.

Thank you for the information, as unfortunate as it may be... I was hoping it was ran harder, since they are a bit more realistically priced (when compared to a BAD).

This would have been a very nice option for me, if it were ran harder that is...

I don’t recall the Scrapmax(s) being run harder either. I’d love to be proven wrong here though... ;)

Ask and ye shall receive....

Leave it to my brother Dan to purchase all of the available ELMAX in the U.S. and europe at the time from Bohler, to pour into some killer cool blades from the Yard!!!

He has surface ground this ELMAX stock down to an ultra thin .090", given these blades a full height flat grind, and then taken the edges to a vapor thin .008" - .010" prior to sharpening!!!!

Specs: Scrap Max 3.75

Steel: ELMAX
Hardness: 60-62 Rc
Blade length: 3 3/4"
Overall Length: 8 3/4"
Thickness: .090"
Finish: Machined Satin
Weight: 3.3 Ounces
Grind: Full-Height Vapor Grind
Price: $79.95

You can expect this to be the first of many models you will see in ELMAX from my big bro.

Rock 'em sock 'em Danny the Bull ! ! ! !

Proud little brother,

Jerry :D

How'd I miss those? At $80 a pop, I should have at least a half dozen.

I have one 340, and I found the handle to be too block like.
Easy fix, I took some files and a Scotch-Brite pad to the underside of the handle and tapered it a bit. I will be updating the thread about the Scrapmax's with pics when I get home from work.

I am still looking for a 375 and 460.

My apologies for my post leading to a derail.

I would definitely be down for a SR101 version of this, skinny style, ffg.

I agree with the run the hardness as hard as they can without making it brittle.

Would make a damn good EDC or 2nd fixed blade (because, yes, I'm crazy enough to carry two of different size/use instead of folder/fixed like I do now).

That is one of those knives that once you've seen it, it kind of sticks with you forever.
