This thread was inspired by a knife maker on this forum. I searched the forum for quite a while trying to find a thread that was similar and I could find one so I thought that it could/would be something that should be brought to everyone's attention. We have sick and innocent people in this great country of ours that are suffering needlessly. Unfortunately, a lot of them are children but some of them DO have a chance and I can only hope that I can be a contributing factor in healing 'our' children.

I am a very active individual in blood donation. I don't really care for needles so I do double platelets so I can give only 2x's a year. At the same time this is VERY useful as the double platelets are only good for a few days but are EXTREMELY helpful. On top of this I am a universal 'donor' so I have a MUCH higher chance of donation compared to 'type specific' blood types. I guess the majority of people don't understand the concept of how much blood is needed to help cure the sick.

Even less noticed is the need for bone marrow, kidney, and partial liver transplants. Some of these innocent people need these types of transplants to be able to survive. When I think of my own son, there is NOTHING I wouldn't do to help them. If I wasn't a match to be able to donate I would be completely mortified. :( All I would be able to do is reach out to the community (local and nationwide) to beg for help and do/pay anything as long as it would help my child. Could you think of yourself in that situation?

Wouldn't you beg, plead, pray for someone to help you? And that's the way I look at it. What if I was in 'their' position? Just wishing, praying, begging for a match so that your child could live? For this reason alone, I put myself on a Living Donor list. I am able to donate my bone marrow, a kidney, and part of my liver if needed. I'm not really big into charity donation as far as 'money' is concerned because I am the sole provider of my family and it is all that I can do to provide them with a 'comfortable' lifestyle. No new vehicles or a $100,000 home either. We live very simply but also happily. :)

With all that said, please think about your own child, children, parents, and siblings. There are people that CAN help out others that doesn't cost a single penny. The only thing you would be out of is a little bit of time and a sense of awesomeness to be able to help another human being. So please, think about your own family and become a donor. It can be the greatest single accomplishment of your lifetime (besides your own family). :)
