So, With all of the real nice 110 work Jerad from JAG Knives puts out for show and sale, I thought I'd ask him to do some carbon fiber scales for a Vantage. It took a bit of trial and error but Jerad came threw and produced a beautiful carbon fiber scaled Vantage. I'd hoped it would significantly reduce the weight of the knife but it came in at 4.2 oz. The diamond wood Vantage weighted in at 3.8oz while the Pro came in at 4.4oz. Never the less, it looks cool and feels great. Here are some pictures. Thanks Jerad...

Very nice Matt. :thumbup::thumbup:
Yes he does some great work and I've enjoyed his pictures also. I've already spent my allowance for the month which is good & bad because his current offering of a rams horn 111 is wearing on me.

Thanks guys!
It was a new challenge for me, but it worked out well. There is some clearance holes/slotting underneath which makes it more difficult than just shaping a scale.
I think I am going to try Ironwood next.

Make a bunch of any material and price em right and you will sell a plenty! I know I am in the market for a couple.

Very nice! I'm also surprise that it didn't lighten it up more but I guess metal would have to go on the frame for that to happen.

The Paperstone scales are slightly thinner than these. I'd say the CF weighs the same but is nearly 20 times stronger (and probably 20X more expensive :)

I've been caring this knife for the past few days and I think I love it. It feels great in hand and there is no issue with opening and closing. I was a bit off center when I got it but, I took it apart and re-assembled it, adjusted the blade pivot pin and it works great. 5 STAR...

How do you adjust it Matt? They all came out of the box 55/45 centering.

I'm not really sure, I take them apart and put them back together again and the adjust the blade. I have even sanded the brass washers just a bit and that seems to work for me. I really don't care if the blade is 55=45 but when it rubs the liner I have to do something.

Dang, those CF scales look amazing. I was wondering about the weight savings too. Would CF be strong enough to ditch the non-locking side liner? I mean, if you made that side twice as thick, to account for the missing liner. CF is pretty strong, it just might be able to hold up to that. I have a really light folding CF tool, with no liners or reinforcement, and it's really strong.

Then make the other side a solid piece of titanium for a framelock conversion, and I think the weight should come down some.

In my opinion the Vantage is already about as light as you could make it out of the box. Paper stone is very light and rather strong. It's effectively CF without the weave.
I haven't weighed similar sized pieces but Id dare to say CF of equal dimensions is heavier.
Also I think the weight savings of say .040" stainless to .040" titanium on this knife might be 0.1oz. It's not until you get to thicker knives would you notice.
Also Ti is heavier piece per piece than CF, so I think a frame lock sans scale on one side(like a Mayo 172)would likely weigh more but be stronger again.
