... Which would you prefer?

Buy Brown or Okuden sheath?

I want that perfect fit for my new BATAC SE.

It would be great if I could have a sheath that "clicked" when inserted, if possible.

Does anyone here have experience with either, or both, custom sheaths???

Thanks ya'll!

both are great!!! Oku has my business though. Positive click and drop tested to desired height. All of my plastic will go to Brian...

i have had both. i prefer okuden's method of retention, which is scale retention. scale retention will give you the click you are looking for.

buy brown sheaths are normally blade retention sheaths, which hold the blade in place through lateral pressure from the kydex.

I have never handled a Buy Brown sheath, but all of my Okuden sheaths offer the click you are searching for.

I have seven Okuden sheaths and they all have a nice click when inserted. They hold really tight, I can shake them upside down* hard and the knife will not fall free. Brian is great to deal with too. I have no experience with Buy Brown sheaths but have only read positive things.

* Note: wear sturdy shoes when performing this test!

I've had both and like the click on the Oku's....I've never had a problem with BB's work though....retention isn't an issue. I'd say they fit the blade a bit tighter though and are more inclined to scratch your blade. They fit perfect after stripping your knife :D.

One other aspect to consider is the design itself. Okuden has a sandwich design that has a larger footprint, but that allows for a tighter fit. Brown has a "fold-over" design that has a smaller footprint, but still provides adequate retention.

I considered both, and went with Brown for the smaller, tighter sheath that still held the knife plenty well.

Oh, and Dave put some pretty cool flames on it.

Yea, I only have a Buy Brown for my CGFBM. It was a really tight fit. Couple of weeks ago I decided to strip the mistress and give it a quick sanding. After that it fit in the Buy Brown perfectly, and yes I hear that click now:)

Not to mention the holes at the talon holes. If I was going ballistic I could simply zip-tie the knife to the sheath through that hole.

Another Buy Brown innovation.

Great responses everyone...

This has been very informative for me, as I'm sure it has for others!

Don't be afraid to continue replys.. much appreciated! ;)

Eric at On / Scene Tactical is in between the 2, they are 'taco' folded like BB, and the retention is around the scales with an indent at the top tube.

This is an AD, but same for the others.

Okuden Sheaths are Tanks, Strong, Bullet proof, a little Bulky.

First Choice if Jumping from Aircraft.

Buy Brown are more like Race cars, Fast, Sleek, trim, light great for EDC my choice for Normal carry by maybe 35 to one over Okuden's

I like the Hole inline with the Talon Hole.

Both are better then just "ok"

These pictures are great...

I'd love to see more if any of you have them!!

Your On / Scene Tactical sheath looks very nice - I'd like to see some Okuden pics if anyone's got 'em... (Browns too!)

Thanks ya'll

I have an Okuden AK sheath, a couple Buy Browns, two Progunners, three On Scene Tactical and a few Leatherface sheaths.

They are all fine but the Leatherface was the least expensive, thinnest and not as well finished as the others. It's still a decent value.

On the design side, I prefer sandwich construction to the taco. It gives you a place to push with your thumb when drawing the knife, that makes it much easier to draw with one hand when it has tight retention. I think most sheath makers will do sandwich construction if you ask for it.

As for security, I don't think you can beat the Buy Brown when you use the talon hole retention. Of course if your knife doesn't have a talon hole, I think an Okuden might have better retention.

Lastly, these sheaths are all hand made and knives vary a bit so there is a little luck involved. I am sure that certain sheaths and knives will go against the generalities listed in this thread.

I have 4 Okuden's right now, with 2 more on the way...

Here is my A7-T for my Heavy Heart FSH.. She's been customized a little..

(Brian, those CG BATAC mag's gonna be ready by BladeWest??)

When those get here, I've got 2 more orders for him. He does done excellent work, and is just a nice guy to deal with!

But everybody I've met from this forum has been nice.. I think it's the INFI.

I have had both, I am all Okuden. BB seems to grab the blade, and scuff the finish. Plus with Okuden you can add a nylon belt loop for low ride carry.
