Note: This is only for the satin blade version as far as I know.

If you have the Contego or plan on getting one, make sure you check out the tang. Mine was feeling a little sticky so I popped the blade out to clean and lube the pivot area.

Turns out the coating only goes a little past half way on the pivot area and the non-coated portion has specks of rust on it. Others blade's are fully coated so I'm not sure if mine was a fluke or if a batch didn't fully go through the coating process. Also the black coated that I have has a full coating.

Short album here.

That's a bummer. It's really frustrating when stuff like that happens. When QC misses something.

Far as I can tell, and this without removing the blade, mine is coated as it has no sticky spots, and I generally keep a tighter pivot than most.

I guess they have to fix the blade somehow when they treat/coat it.
Does it have any adverse effect on the knife?

Others I've talked to have fully coated blades so I don't think mine is the norm.

Nothing but some stickiness, which was remedied with oil, so far. Long term, I don't know.

Even though you disassembled the knife--which should invalidate the warranty--the warranty is explicitly in place to protect the buyer against defective products. If this lack of coating is in fact a defect (which it sure seems like), the company should be willing to repair or replace the knife since the defect (or at least the extent of the defect) was invisible until after the knife was taken apart. Depending on your circumstances and how much this bothers you, you may want to consider contacting Benchmade.
