For those still using Internet Explorer

yeah, im on mozilla right now- i really like internet explorer, but i'm not gonna risk it

Ditto. I switched our three computers over to it immediately after reading that story tonight.

Firefox works good. Netscape was my original favorite browser.

I think you'll be happy with Mozilla.

I switched to Firefox a few months ago - the ability to block ads has made the internet 'fun' again, and web pages load MUCH faster without all that crap. And the built-in spell-checker has probably made my forum posts more readable. :)

Firefox, Bleh.

I had it on my old puter and it was constantly giving me problems. Freezing up and shutting down.

Guess I'll give it another shot on my new machine and see what happens.

I have been using it for a few years and love it. There are some web sites that will not work in Firefox, but they are getting fewer.

The best thing about Firefox IMO are the extensions. There are extensions that let you sync your bookmarks between computers, let you toggle 'stealth' mode on and off, help with ebay, facebook etc and just about anything else that you can think of. My favorite is mouse gestures. I will no longer use a browser (if I can help it) without them. The lack of mouse gestures is the reason that I don't use Chrome.

My Extensions:
Adblock Plus
All-In-One Gestures
flashblock
NoScript
Stealther

I just switched to Mozilla this morning based upon the security issues. Been a seamless conversion thus far. Couldn't be more satisfied. Thanks for the alert.

firefox has worked well for me and i've been using it for a couple of years. another possible browser is safari by apple. works well on my machine and seems slightly faster than firefox. i don't use ie very much anymore.

So what browser do you guys suggest for someone with a machine running Vista and on dial up? Sounds like I need to get away from IE.

Thanks for the heads up, just made Mozilla my default browser. IE can stand aside until they iron out their problems.

FWIW, I just downloaded a patch to IE7 but am going to stay with Firefox for a while just to get used to it and see how I like it over a period of time. I do like a couple of the extensions I've seen...(Web of Trust, Add Blocker Plus etc.)

I think I did the update as well - I simply used Windows Update on my PC and installed -

Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB960714)
when expanded said:

" Security Update for Internet Explorer 7 for Windows XP (KB960714) Security issues have been identified that could allow an attacker to compromise a system running Microsoft Internet Explorer and gain control over it. You can help protect your system by installing this update from Microsoft. After you install this item, you may have to restart your computer. "

See - IE hack patch is out: How to get it

I have always had FireFox on my PC as my alternate browser and have used on occassion - but have always kept it up-to-date (v. 3.0.5)

However overall I still prefer IE(7) as there are some things that IE just does better -
eg: saving single web archive page .mht;
opening links in a new tab;
Using RealPlayer to download a video
(uses the buffer with IE so the download is almost instantaneous when the video playing cache/buffer is full -
whereas in FireFox 3.0.5 even when the video is finished playing, the download still seem to take time, like the download is separate from the playing)
- but as always it's probably just what I am used to, and YMMV.

Internet explorer still exists??? Its been 15+ years since i moved from that lack of choice, bloated , virus infested slow OS called Microsoft and IE. Did'nt IE die out in the mid 90's...?

I'm about to hijack this thread.
Do any of you know why adobe flash will not work when using firefox?
It works when I am using IE.
Thanks

Interesting this gets hyped up right after Google's Chrome is released.

However, after reading articles about Chrome in a nerdy computer magazine, it sounds like a great system.

Although the first "stable" release was Dec 11, Google Chrome was initially released to the public in September. I really don't think Chrome (or anyone else) needs to hype any I.E. security exploits for their interests: the exploits come up all the time on their own

I can understand why people use Internet Explorer for the few ball-breaking sites that still require it, and for environments where no other option is available (such as work restrictions that disallow any other browser use), but I just don't understand why people choose it as a primary browser for full-time personal use. Don't get me wrong: everyone has the right to that choice... I just don't understand it.
