For those that say Benchmade is not a good value.

Huh. Seems like right before the price increase kicked in, I bought a pair of 586s, one for me and one for the SO, for ~ $140 apiece, and a 581 for myself at $145.

Full liners, G10 & aluminum scales & bolsters, assist and a safety if you want it and you can remove them if you don't.

Now, for $130, I get 3" of M390 with full liners and Noryl GTX, or for $140 3.4" of M390 with partial liners and Noryl GTX.

I'm not trying to say these are bad knives and I'm sure they'll work absolutely wonderfully. M390 is easily my favorite folding knife steel and I've had nothing but excellent experiences with BM's heat treat of it. But compared to what you could get from them before they artificially kicked up their prices - I'm having a harder and harding time seeing the "good value."

I love M390 in a folder, great edge bite. That said put G10 handles and full liners on it and keep the price under $175 then you got something. With Spyderco doing S110V under $110 in a similar size/handle etc. $140 isn't ground breaking. Honestly if it was not for the axis lock there would only be one or two BM's that would even interest me especially after the new pricing fiasco.

I will say this, I love the new trend of seeing these "lower" cost and mid cost production knives with high end blade steel, for the people that are not about fluff and are all about edge holding some of these offerings are great news. The only concern I have is the heat treat, if they are not getting them hard enough even unobtanium steel sucks.

Agreed.

Last year, before November's MAP enforcement, I bought a 581 Barrage and a 586 Mini-Barrage for $144 and $137 respectively. M390 and G-10!

If your paying BM's map pricing, you don't know how to shop. I've bought 2 BM's since they changed, and can get them everyday for the same price they were a year ago.

I wasn't talking about Ritters. It's an exclusive and personally I think it's a nice deal. I was referring to every other normal production model that people keep harping on and mentioning MAP and so on and so on. It's almost like people are looking for an excuse to write them off before they even shop around. It's so tiring. The internet is your friend. Just a easy one off top of my head, try united outdoors on that big auction site. There are many more but that's one to help to get you started.

I think that M390 for an extra five bucks is a good deal. I don't know what the HT will be, but neither does anyone else. I've had a couple of Grips and sold them. I've also had some long-lasting experience with BM's 154 cm, which I really did NOT like, even AFTER I sent it to them, paid for sharpening, and then bought a new blade from them. Waste of time.
The new pricing that BM has come up with...will certainly not induce me to buy more of their products. I did have a 710 in D2 which I thought is a very nice folder. I'm not "against" BM...I'm just "pro" other manufacturers.

Cool and thanks for the tip.I appreciate it very much Sir......

Ugh I'm trying to save for some Ray-Bans people! Now I am tempted to just get the Ritter now.... I've always wanted a Ritter now they come in M390?! Well, looks like I know what my next knife purchase is gonna be :p

I've sharpened quite a few benchmade folders in M390, IMO they are spot on with the Heat Treatment.

I think The 154cm Griptilliian is one of the best values out there for a daily carry knife. The handles do not bother me at all.

My only gripe with Benchmade is the number if knives they out out with uneven edge bevels.

Don't trust that the heat treatment will be any good. Actually, I don't really believe that anything about the knife will be any good except for the lock.

I guess the Ritters I've bought for ~ 10 years don't prove anything. And I guess the Benchmade M390 blades that I've got going back three or four years and across half a dozen different models don't prove anything, either.

I'm sure glad you came by to clue us all in.

Personally will NEVER buy anything by Benchmade after VERY BAD CUSTOMER SERVICE EXPERIENCE.

I have dealt with the Benchmade customer service, warranty and repair on several occasions. One of the very best out there. I may dislike their MAP enforcement and some QC issues but I have nothing but good things to say about their CS.

Well, that's what this thread is about. Perhaps it would be better for you to reference exactly what you are talking about or post on topic.

Yes, the thread was about Ritters, but I actually read thru it and seen where it went, as every other BM thread does it seems. And my post was a reply to a question if that helps clear things up for ya. 😉
