For those that thought your 110 sheath was bonded leather...

After the last topic on this, I decided to take a closer look at 110 black sheaths that I thought were bonded leather.

There is definitely something different about these sheaths in comparison to others...and now we know that they are just a bit harder and chemical smelling but they are true leather...

but in looking a little closer, I noticed something and wanted to ask those of you that have these to take a really really close look for me and see if yours look the same.

I noticed that on examples of these sheaths...it seems like the leather in question doesn't necessarily have to be all the pieces...in fact it seems the culprit is the piece with the buck logo on it (middle piece that folds over). The front and loop piece on the ones I've seen seem to have more follicle definition and a softer feel while the middle piece consistently has the more "cardboard" feel to it with a very unnatural smooth pattern on it. This is obviously if you're looking really really close. Also, this piece is very hard to the point where it doesn't flex the way you expect it to.

Are yours the same or are all the pieces consistent?

If you do see a difference, why do you think it is?

Reconstituted leather???

Maybe from a different animal...IIRC, USAF flight jackets are made from horsehide...Bundeswehr Luftwaffe flight jackets are made from pigskin...maybe Buck has found a new animal to make sheaths from...

...:eek::eek::eek:...Remember "Soylent Green"???...

Thank You Gentlemen for such a wonderful wake-up!

Well, the flap on one of mine is stiff to the point that if I bend it 90 degrees to the back, it just stays there.

If these Buck sheaths are made of people...do you think I can more for them on ebay? Or will they be more collectable if I wait for a few years?

A.P.F....

That's pretty stiff. Is the rest of the sheath like that as well?

They should be worth more...unless they're made in Mexico...do they have any designs on them??? Like, skulls, or snakes, or maybe the name "Mom" inside a heart...:eek: ;)

(Let's try to bump this thread to the top for breakfast tomorrow morning) :D

You're right...it is a bargain especially now that we know it is made of people.

Somewhere on this forum is a guy with 110 scales made of...bone...people bone!!!...
Yeeeks!!! i remember that !!!
ya know they did some of that during the war of seperation ... rings too!
like if i lost a leg or arm i would might want knife with my "own bone" handle!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::eek::confused:

If its an arm you can make it an automatic!

Hmmm ... sheaths from people? It IS rather ironic that the sheaths are offered in tan or black isn't it?

Lets get this thread back on line before I loose my lunch ok? :barf:
Last I heard was that our sheath supplier, (a company that we have used for over 30 years btw), will look into this.

Now I'm starting to worry about my new Buck coffee mug, did that package say "Bone China" or "Chinese Bone"? :D

Yes I know, I'm a very bad man............
