The other day, I became drawn to a cheap knife for 97 cents (yes, I said 97 cents, which is not me as I usually have expensive taste) at Wal-Mart in the camping isle, well I bought it.It is about 4in. long closed and has 75% serrated blade made of Chinese Stainless, it has a lockback similar to Spyderco's in that it only goes halfway down the handle, and a pocket clip/thumb stud. The handle is quite comforable to hold although only made of plastic, it gives a pretty good grip. I was actually quite surprised at how strong the lock is, I put it through the spine whack test which surprisingly it passed with flying colors, it does have alot of play in blade and the lock isn't flush with the handle, but at less than a dollar, I found it a good abuse knife, and I figured it was worth passing on. Keep in mind that it is still of poor quality but well worth the dollar I gave for it. Please let me know if any of you are amused or interested or you think this is a waste of a thread.

I have always wondered about the quality of the 87-cent SAK classic copies they sell. And for the record I am always amused with review and evaluations of cheap knives.

Yeah theres a Walmart in almost every town, so anything that can be found at walmart that has a sharp edge...well Im sure someone here will buy one just to see, especially if its under a dollar!!! Thanks for the review...

As for the cheap SAK classics for 88 cents, yes I own one of those as well, they are junk and not woth it, unless you wanted to say give it to someone you know would lose it, like a neighbor or co-worker.

I have scars all over my hands from cheap knives ( ya it takes me a while to learn a lesson) I have had one $ 2 folding knive break into two pieces while cutting Nylon rope.

lol!:D Well now its Todd Boone, and Shawn Leflar...As funny as they are and the knives, I still watch it since they are knives, would never buy anythgin from them, but I have to say the show is entertaining...It was a fun show when I didn't know anythgin about knives, but when you do its even more entertaining...lol!

I got a "SAK" as a promo gift from a military book club , it was one of the ones that had everything but a microwave on it.

Yeap, it was absolute crap , every piece on it was junk , the file couldnt file my nails , the knives had no edge (I didnt try to put one on) , it was just pure junk.

On the other hand I have some cheapies that are pretty darn nice such as the freebie paring knife my Mom scored for me at Target , it was very sharp out of the package and is actually one excellent little slicer , for a cheapo Chi-com knife. It actually found it's way into my camping mess kit. :D

Don't you like how on every show, they always say "this is the best deal we have ever had" that phrase means alot less when they say it every show! lol!:D

I watch that "Knife Collectors" show/sales pitch every chance I get (in-fact, it was on last night.). I actually feel sorry for those two bozos if they REALLY believe that (most) of the junk that they sell is really "quality cutlery"...When you can buy 18 knives for $47.50, there has to be SOMETHING wrong there.:D.

Something else I've noticed about those two bozos is how they keep "speed flicking" open and closed, those "tactical" pocket knives, and never seem to get cut...Those MUST be some pretty DULL knives!.:D.

I've not had good luck with any of the Chinese knockoffs of SAKs that have crossed my path. They're commonly given as premiums for subscribing to magazines, etc. I don't know what the blades are made of, but I can't sharpen them very well. I woudn't be surprised if they were 300-series stainless like table flatware.

Hell we all like to hear about a "decent" cheap knife.......next time I'm at Wally I checkem out!

Chinese SAKS.........its so true the Chicoms can make a passable knock off when it comes to slip joints or folders but givem a Sak to knock off and every one I have seen aren't even worth the .97 c knife we are discussing,,,,,,,,strange........VIC and Wenger have got nothing to worry about so far......I haven't even seen a decent scout knife from Chicom

Not only that, but its the pivot screws...They open so fast and smooth...well thats because the pivot screws are barely even in, they are sooo loose that it enable a cheap knife to look nice on camera...I could only imagine...there must be a half inch of blade play in every direction!!!

But they crack me up, lol, so I still watch them...

Another thing that cracks me up...lololololol...ever notice that when they are offering a button lock folder they mention how there friends like to "tinker" with them and make them more fun....lol, they are talking about adding a coil spring to make it an automatic, but since its illegal in most places they just beat around the bush, they can never actually just say it...:jerkit: If your going to pitch somethign like that come out and say it, and if you are going to get into trouble, then don't say anything at all...

Vic and Wenger seem to work smart. The result is a product that's not only high quality, cut competitively priced. It does make me wonder if Chinese factories are truly not capable or if they are simply not motivated. Maybe a bit of both?

No kidding!...I'm actually alittle suprised that a blade hasn't fallen out of one of those "knives" while it was being flicked open...(But then again, maybe that HAS happened, but was edited-out of the program.:D.:D.).
