Who here would be willing to pay a bit more (percentage wise) to have a satin finish on their blade? Not being fond of BB blades, I'd be willing to pay 10-20% more. It would be worth it to me, than for me to have to take apart the knife and give the blade a satin finish myself. How about you?

Absolutely. I'm a big fan of satin blades. I don't really care for beadblast, or stonewash for that matter. They do hold up well to use.

On the other hand the one blade I had polished drove me nuts. Couldn't look at the thing without it getting smudged. I developed this obsessive-blade wiping-compulsion.

Satin is the best of both worlds to me. Hides a lot of the little scratches but still showcases the steel.

Of course one of my favorites these days is tiger striped. :D

I am also a fan of satin finish. I'd pay a little more for it, maybe 10-15%.I also really like the tigerstripe finish but I dont have one yet.

With some custom fixed blades the difference in cost between BB and satin could be significant.

I didn't mind beadblast until I carried my crkt m16-12z one hot, sweaty day, and it rusted all over the place! To remove the rust I took it apart and polished the liners and blade with sandpaper. It was nice enough to give to my sister at that point.

for most handmade knives - satin is actually the more economical finish (read cheaper) - many finish to a mirror polish.

Bead blast finishes - although it may seem minor - but there are different types that seem to affect possible rusting -

sand blasting - which gives a finish that feels rougher, looks darker, duller - and also seems to promote corrosion more.

glass bead blasting - somehow feels smoother - looks a little lighter/brighter - and doesn't seem to promote corrosion as much.

Count me in on the Satin finish! I love a knife that shines :)

Examples.....take a little of the Mothers Mag Wheel & Aluminum cleaner to your blade & rub away that dirt :D
My MercWorx Lachesis & my Chris Reeves Lrg. Sebenza, both with the BG-42 polished up really nice with that stuff. Almost mirror like. Beautiful :D
