How does one pronounce "snaphaunce"?

It's beautiful! What kind of wood is that? Would you be able to get some video of the entire loading/firing process, and perhaps even shoot a group?

Is the bore round, or does it have any kind of rifling?

That is probably close to the original Flemish
I just found this, for what it's worth:
The snaphaunce gets its name from the Flemish schnapp-hahn, "pecking cock". This refers to the action of the cock which holds the flint. Unlike the dog-head in most wheel-lock weapons, the cock was situated behind the priming pan (also called the flash-pan). In other respects its action was similar. The steel (known as the "battery") was on an arm pivoting over the priming pan from the front.

Which, since the origin is lost in time - is probably pretty correct. Who knows?

I love all things scottish. Haven't had the courage to try haggis yet. Did you have the option of an all steel scottish pistol. Historians are always crwoing about the scots inability to aquire steel and yet a significant type of weapon of their is the all steel flintlock. Always found that kind of strange.
