From Nancy and me, our heartfelt thanks to all who have given their lives to defend and protect these United States of America.

While there is but one day set aside as a holiday, our thanks go out every day we wake up free.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning,
We will remember them.

Walked out of the VFW last night and an inebriated young lass thanked me and my friends. This morning it brings to mind my father, a Vietnam era 11B who went to airborne school and volunteered for LRRP's in that crap hole. My Grand father before that who was SeaBee in a few crap holes in WW2. My Grand father died in mud. And my Father was KIA in Vietnam, he just didn't know it until 87. I look on the TV at all the grave stones at Normandy, all the boots on TV arranged at Ft. Hood. I won't say they gave all for the USA. Can't say it for sure. I will say they gave all for their brothers and sisters in arms. Sad day.

Holidays, to me, seem to be a reminder to those who appear to have forgotten that there are certain things that we should be aware of and thankful for including those who worked and paid a price to get us where we are, imperfect as it may be. If on no other day of the year, that day is your opportunity. On Memorial Day, those who gave all in service to our country. My father's father was one of those lost when the USS AKRON went down in a storm in 1933. My father's step-father was a POW of the Japanese in WW2. My father served in the Korean theater during that conflict. My mother's oldest brother was a Pearl harbor survivor and one of her other brothers retired a Army Colonel. I was too young for Vietnam. 2nd to last company of recruits through NTC Great Lakes to receive the full GI bill and National Defense Service Medal just for volunteering to serve. Felt unworthy of the decoration and never wore it. Served a two year enlistment as a Hospital Corpsman at Naval Hospital Quantico. A wide variety of Marines, all of whom needed medical attention of one form or another at one time or another. As with any group of people, some better men than others but all willing to do whatever it takes to preserve and defend our freedoms. God bless and keep them and all who have served, do serve, and will serve in the future.

Pete

For all of those who paid the price and for all of those who went -- and still go -- in harm's way, Thank You.

Great comments all. I am working today, but that's fine. I give guided tours on a retired naval vessel. I also schedule myself to work Veteran's Day. A salute to you all. USN: 1976 - 1980.

We honor the brave service members who gave all and express our eternal gratitude to their families.

Never forgotten. . . always remembered. . .

We offer our thoughts and prayers for the families left behind and the many who gave all.

God Bless America!

I worked today as well. For me it is always nice to remember that if things had gone different the privilege to achieve the American dream could have been traded for just being a memory like so many others. A man who survived war knows everyday he lives with the bittersweet memory of those who didn't, as well as the question of why him.

Many Gave.....Some Gave All.........Never Forget, In Memory of all my fallen Brothers......Semer Fi..
