I'm trying to get some basic knife making equipment together, I have a Dewalt porta band saw and a couple bi-metal blades that will hopefully work for metal, but I can't seem to find any wood cutting blades for this thing.?? ...I believe it takes a 64 1/2" x 1/2" x .025" size blade.

So for those of you who are also using a porta band, what do you use to cut wood and micarta?? I could use some help or ideas please.

I would guess the same metal blade would be fine but it you really want a wood cutting blade you might can try Suffolk Machinery , I know they can make bandsaw blades the length you want.

I'm not a knife maker. And have only used a portaband to cut lengths of pallet wood for dunage. But, the metal cutting blades always worked for me! :D

Thanks guys!
I tried cutting some plastic with it once, and all it did was vibrate the plastic without cutting into it at all...? So that's why I just figured maybe it was only meant for steel. But I'll have to give it a try on some wood or micarta and see if it works any better!

Hmmm, I'm surprised to hear that...

with pvc for example it should blast right through it.. maybe your blade is super fine??
