After a long but patient wait, i recieved my Crowell Bowie. I just told Jim to make me a Crowell bowie. Didnt give him any "this or thats" with the order.

What i got was very pleasing. To be honest i havent pulled out the tape measure, but the blade is about 10", and a tad over 1/4" at the spine. It is a LAMINATE of A203E shells with a 1095 core. You cant see it in the pic, but there is a neat transition line between the layers that almost looks like a Japanese temperline. The gaurd/ferrule/pin are nickel silver and done perfectly in that Crowell way. The gaurd is domed over with no file work, it carries very comfortabley. The handle is curly maple, a reddish tone with black stripes. The handle didnt photo well, i will try and get some better photos tommorow.

The knife is sharp beyone belief, and has the thinnest edge ive seen in a bowie, clip is very sharp as well.

Here is a photo, not good quality but it will give you an idea of the general design of the knife.

Matt,

That is a great looking knife. I know your practiced eye pics up everything, if you say its nice, it is. If you say sharp, it is. Ahh
Patience. I'm on the list.

Congratulations,
Win

Congratulations for the nice acquisition, Matt, but there is absolutelly no need to be a hardcore bowie fan to enjoy such work of art!

Well, I am a hardcore bowie fan and I think this one is outstanding. This has the lines that I tend to find amongst the most pleasing of all the bowie designs. Interesting that it has a laminate blade. I would be very interested to get your impressions on how well that blade works.

I hate it when Matt hogs all the great knives!

Crowell is my favorite bowie maker. he just seems to always pull it off a little bit different than the rest, but just right in my eyes.

Congrats!

Matt,

Thanks for that awesome photo. I am wondering about the handle's construction. Looks like a solid piece of maple, as opposed to two mortised halves(?)

John

thanks fellas, i just wish i could take a photo that would truly relay the knife.

Any how, the handle is one peice of very nice tight curly maple. It was the first that Jim did a rounded butt on. I really like the round butt as it carries well and feels good in the hand when you drop back to the rear of the handle, there is no corner to dig in.

The more i handle this knife, the more i like it. The clip is just awesome, wicked sharp.

Any serios bowie fan should be on Jims list.

Stunning, absolutely stunning. That's what a Bowie ought to look like.

Too bad there isn't a drooling smiley.:)
