My question is since i dont like the new waves small bit driver if i got the special torx bit to take the new wave apart could i take the small bit driver and new style scissors out would the old style scissors, lanyard ring, and phillips screw driver fit in the same location and the tools i dont want? I think that would be a pretty sweet wave. Until i get the new Surge that is!!! Man thats awesome.

Damn!, now i going to have to look into this! Just when i thought i was satisified with what i have. :rolleyes: Good idea and i will also see what i can do on this. just will say to measure everything three times and think about it twice! will post if i come up with something. i does sound like something can be worked out but then i will try anything once!

Yeah i think its a good idea,mainly for having the lanyard and the better scissors and getting rid of the bit driver,i dont know i dont have the new wave yet but when i get it thats what i wanna do.
* In Edit* didnt realize you were in fredricksburg, im in rappahannock county,right nearby, i was just in culpeper tonight. Thats cool.

OFF TOPIC: i moved here from Petersburg in 96. back to topic, i modify everything i get my hands on! you should have seen me grinding a brand new Buck/Mayo TNT. reshaped the blade and the Ti handle. there was a time i would have never used that knife, but not anymore! i wish i had a camera to post with!

edit: i actually live in orange co. near L.O.W.

The inside tools of the old Wave do not lock and the new ones do, so there will not be a notch in the old inner tools for the locking bar on the new wave. Dremel may remedy that though.

Did I need to buy a new Wave today? - No

Did I buy one anyway? - Yes

The local fishing shop had a new wave at a very cheap price ($150 Oz) so I thought, bugger it, why not.

I reckon it's a winner and am suprised that it hasn't got less positive reviews here. So far I reckon the improvements on the old wave are;

1) Lighter
2) Slightly smaller in length
3) Bigger blades
4) Much easier and safer one handed opening of knife blades
5) Larger wire cutting notch in pliers
6) Larger pliers overall
7) All locking tools
8) No tool clumping
9) Includes ruler
10) Better grip when cutting (chunkier handles)

The possible backward steps are less flat head screwdrivers and smaller scissors. Although neither of these changes affect me adversely. I used the scissors today in every task I would normally use the scissors for and found that they performed the same. The inclusion of the bit holder wiith the micro flat head and phillips are a big plus IMHO and more than make up for the loss of the 1 medium sized flat head.

The sheath is a bit of a puzzle but with so many after market sheaths out there this shouldn't be a major negative. I have fitted the supplied sheath sideways on the belt of my work shorts and wore it all day today while installing my new deck without discomfort. The discomfort and sheer envy of the mate who was helping me was a different matter.

I'd like to take this opportunity to congratulate the people at leatherman. When the forst wave came out I thought it was pretty special and it has served me well on my travels. To have improved on it so significantly shows they have a commitment to continous improvement - onya boys (and girls).

My use is generally on the lighter end but I have always carried a wave with me. It tends to be used for;

Emergency repairs when travelling.
Camp chores
Personal grooming (Toenails etc)
Splinter and tick removal
Fish hook removal from idiot dog who will not learn
Office duties (staples, wrapping, plastic ties and such - very sheeple friendly)

Hey -this has turned into a mini review. Thanks for reading :yawn:

I just got my new wave today,honestly i almost prefer the old more. The new is to big and bulky while useing the knife,oh well.

I think the new wave is a little heavier than the old one.

Oops yes I think you're right :footinmou - it just gives the impression of being lighter because it's slightly bulkier.
