Being touted as "3X sharper than steel " and more environmentally friendly .

Kinda misleading , IMO .

The actual inventors only claim that the compressed wood blade is sharper than the "average table knife " .

The initial environmental costs of steel may be higher , but the potential service life is very long .

Way better for the environment than ANY disposable product .

A tree farm is not a forrest .

Wood may be better than plastic , both in cutting and being "green" . But steel is still the king .

so ya gonna wrap your wood knife in that orange silicon tape ya use, Doc?
I do actually kinda wonder if we'll see this new HW material show up in SD non-magnetic knives .

They claim it makes functional nails .

I watched that video of the knife in the steak. Didn’t even show a real cut, he just pushed a bit around until a piece came off.

These are “scientists” who don’t know what a sharpness tester is, telling people how great their new knife is. I hate everything about green grifters.

You must be vigilant of those who would take advantage of a person's nature to do right in order to sell things! Absolutely support the environment, but know who you're paying, and for what! There are HUGE scams, if you have ever given a dollar to cancer, there is a 50/50 chance you hit one of these huge scam groups. I remember one, giving the kids in the ward Little Debbies and a bag of sanitary stuff, as their big....contribution against cancer, that year, and that was it.

Does this mean we're going to say "Psh, cancer research, that's a worthless endeavor, you know how many people are grifting cash off of that?", no. You can't give up on a good cause because of some lowlifes. You just need to know where your stuff is going. To me, I understand the typical person here to be responsible lovers of the land. One of my first interactions here, a dude who was lamenting the truckloads of trash he picked up from the tourists to his local nature area. There's one company that makes trash-eating boats in SE Asia set right at the mouth of the biggest river in that area flowing into the pacific, and where most of the trash comes from. I'd donate to those guys any day.

As long as it come with titanuim frame locks, show scales and a flipper, maybe DLC coat it and include a Z and T somewhere on the blade. They will sell!

Hahahahaah

Isn't there a thread where this was already discussed when this "news" was 1st released 6 months ago?

Probably , but I saw a thing on the news recently where they were cutting up veggies and hyping the wood blade .

It did perform much better than any plastic I've seen .

So I looked it up .

NOT better than steel ! :(

I maybe could have dug up that thread ...and been called a Necro-something ? .

Here's one posted on 10/22/2021 in which both you and I were previously involved:

Knife From Wood

It was only 6 months ago, not exactly a necro-thread but I thought I remembered that it had been discussed before. Doesn't mean it can't be discussed again but it is pretty OLD news.

Does that wood have good penetration? 🤣:rolleyes:

Wood has been used to cut into stuff for YEARS: there is nothing new here...
Think about it: How many of you have gotten splinters stuck into the most painful part of a finger?

Do you trust what the Times prints?
There has to be better sources...

Yes. I'll read the perspectives of Bob Kramer and Alastair Fisher (a director at Taylor’s Eye Witness Limited, a knife manufacturer in Sheffield) and others in the article. I learned more about the topic. Plus, I think it's good anytime our hobby appears in the national press.

I would appreciate all wood SCALES !!
YES
This compressed wood might make decent scales , handles , even be structural if really "23X stronger" ?

Might have many good applications , but I don't think sharp wooden blades will ever compare to steel .
