Foraging in the Loess Hills(vid) cattails,nettles, and bluegill

Snow and my self went out a few days ago spent the night in the hills and did a little foraging. I can not stress enough before you eat any plant or animal be sure you know what it is and how to prepare it.

IA, do you ever go deeper and get the root of the cattail? It has been decades since I had any, but I remember they had lots of starch in them, so probably a lot more calories than the bottom of the shoot...

I am glad you and your son like them. Home slice goes by the name of snow on this forum.

I have gotten the roots out in the past, but these were all tangled up in deep grass roots. So I went the easy route.
