Hello all,

I tried to force a patina on my gayle bradley using vinegar, and grapefruit.
Long story short, two hours later, no patina.
I'm thinking this is because I put tuf-glide on the blade. I guess tuf-glide works very well.

Has anyone forced a patina on M4?

What did you use?

Does anyone know how to remove tuf-glide?

Thanks all.

Last night I forced a patina on my GB using lemon juice. Left it in for about three hours, flipped the blade every 45 minutes, and replaced the lemon juice every hour.

Turned out great, a very dark and even grey.

Anything from lime juice to vinegar to mustard will do the trick. Try a search of the forums to see the past carbon steel blades that have been patina. There are at least 100 different examples if not more.

If you put a protectant on the blade, especially some thing higher tech like tough glide, you may need to give her a hot scrub with dish soap.

anyway to get a clean and uniform result you need to wash and degrease you blade completely.

Heinz Ketchup.

I got this through a 45min sit. I messed up the other side because I left it on overnight, so do a 45 min sit and see if that's what you want.

I've forced many a patina in my day, using everything from vinegar, to apples, potatoes and grapefruit.

I cleaned the blade with every cleaning product I had, scrubbed it with hot water and soap etc, etc. I then put the blade in white vinegar for about 3 hours. 3 hours! (It usually
takes about 20-30 min)

No patina.

So I took the blade out, put more tuf-glide on it, and put the knife back together. It seems tuf-glide works so well, I don't need a patina!

I used apple cider vinegar on my M4 millie. Left it for over ten hours though. It will pretty much give you a black patina.

I used the same thing on my Super Blue Caly3.5. It'll develop bubbles on the surface if you leave it laying flat so just take some precautions.

I used a paper towel soaked in apple cider vinegar. I twisted the towel and wrapped the blade and let is sit for several hours.
