Force Patina or not...

Those look like remnants of the hand forging process. Someone could possibly fake that, but I wouldn't call it a patina.

When I bought it, it was covered in black deep red "rust";I think its the heat treatment and I had to sand it with sandpaper to unearthed the forging marks. So wondered if its better to force patina on it.
 
Patina do tell the blade have gone through a lot though. I think of not forcing patina on it. Let nature handle:)
just keep it dry, clean, and oiled, and if you want you can cut strawberries and raw chicken to speed up the patina process, no need for mustard or any of that

this is why i prefer stainless, less headache, id suggest you get rid of all of the black/red rust before it starts pitting then, you're right, put a patina on it to keep it from coming back so hard
