Force to disengage an AXIS lock

Hey everyone,

Im looking for a gift to get my brother for his birthday and think a benchmade griptilian would be perfect. Only problem is that my brother has a medical condition that causes him to not be able to exert a lot of force with his fingers. I have a SOG flash 2 and he has a problem getting that closed. My question is, how much force is needed to close an axis lock as compared to a flash 2?

Thanks for the help

It's been a while since I handled a Flash 2, but as I remember, it was stiffer than an AXIS lock. The AXIS lock doesn't require very much to disengage. Also, since the AXIS lock is ambidextrous, you can use both your thumb and index finger to disengage the lock. You can also do this with the opposite hand, if necessary.

Not necessary all axis lock is easy to close regarding your brother condition. Get a Benchmade that the handle weight to blade ratios more heavy towards the blade. The griptilian is great choice. I have the 553 & the mini 556....both is smooth. The SOG flash 2 is assisted openning...but the griptilian is not. If you brother can open with the thumb/pushing the thumb stud then closing is not a problem, by pinching the axis, flick the wrist (gravity) will close the blade.

With other Benchmade like the Presido black serie, bone collector, rift....when the handle is more bulky/ beefy...take a bit more flick of the wrist to

Sounds like good advice, although the blade on my Rift swung freely. Lock was very easy to operate. The lock on my 530 was much harder to operate and I wouldn't recommend it for your brother. A Grip (although I haven't played with one much) seems like a great choice. Maybe even a mini since the end of the knife will easily sit in his palm allowing easy purchase on both sides of the axis.

You're a good brother.

Some may have complaint about the griptilian handle feels like plastic, but its super lite weight, thus openning and closing blade very easy, the blade weight actually helps action. I'm very impress with the grip...he'll love it

I like the Axis lock a lot, but the Sog arc lock is easier to disengage. Actually a button locker folder might be his best option.

Is a small fixed blade not an option? If you want a folder then the mini grip is very easy to close, prob the easiest of all my folders I have handled.
