I'm using (organic apple cider vinegar) to force a patina on my delica super blue. Doh no how long this will take, any suggestions are welcome. These are before Picts

Well it's laminated, so I doubt you'll get that pretty super blue patina. You could also give mustard a try.

Thanks, I'll give it some more time in the vinegar to see what happens. I'll keep posting as I go.

Approximately 1 hour, needs more time in the vinegar.

I did the same thing to my SB Endura. I soaked mine for 1.5 hours...

I cut a very rare steak with mine and it turned an awesome blue hue. I'll see if I can edit in a picture later.

I have not touched my SB Endura, as I want to see it come naturally. I have used one of these on a Opinel #8 and you are able to build up the patina. Starts really mild and after time you can get it pretty dark. Very easy to use.....

Almost 2 hours, I like it.
Thanks for looking

I put some ballistol on it, the light has a drastic effect on the look

Is that a reflection in the last pics or did you get some staining in the 420j2 cladding around the spydiehole? I ask because I built a patina on my SB Delica and I got some patina just above the lamination line. I thought about contact customer service to see if it was a defect, but by that time I'd already decided the knife was a user, so I let it go.

That's patina in the photo. Mine is a user, it could of been something I did that caused the patina in other places.
I really like the patina look on mine, it seems to get darker and lighter in certain lights.

Let me try that again:

if you can see it the patina extends above the lamination line, and I hadn't used it to do anything that would have scraped any cladding off. Like I said it's a user, I'm just wondering if others are the same. Still thinking of laying hands on another of these to put away....kind of annoyed I missed the Endura.

They are still available.

That's a great looking edge! SB takes such a great edge, I love the stuff.

Thanks! Yeah I just got my first Super Blue in this Delica and a couple of kitchen knives from Hiromoto. Amazing stuff - takes a mirror like nothing I've seen.

There's a good thread on this. Try boiling apple cider vinegar. Boil it, then lower it to a simmer. Dip the knife for a bit, then wash it off (don't dab, it turns out uneven). Lather, rinse, repeat as necessary. You can get a completely black blade this way. Thread is here:
http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...A-Deep-Even-Black-Patina-On-1095-Carbon-Steel
While this says 1095, it should work for any metal which can have a patina and responds to vinegar. Make sure you read several pages, as there are improvements in the process a bit after the original post.

How does it cut? I got the sb Endura but contemplating to sell it or use it. I do have a zdp189 version and I like it.
